Anyone have any experience intercutting Epic with Nikon lenses and D800 footage together? Shooting in a home, lots of natural light, group of people sitting around talking. Epic for CUs and D800s for WIDE and MED shots. How well do you think they can be matched?

Thanks,
Ward

I have both.

If you are finishing in 1080p and grade it right it should cut pretty well.

Cool - thanks we are finishing in 1080p. Do you use a custom profile on the D800s to match the Epic? Any other recommendations?

I don't have the D800, but having mixed Red and Canon footage before I'll say get the look you want out of the dslr (with any profiles you want, and any post grading) make sure that the footage looks as you want it to, then match the Epic to it, don't try to match the D800 to the Epic, you'll be disappointed.

I also own both and have found the D800 to be a pretty proficient B camera to the Epic. Make sure that the D800 color profile (set picture control) is set to neutral, otherwise it can produce some very pastel skin tones. Set to Neutral, I have found the D800 to produce color qualities very similar to Red and easily match able between the two cameras at 1080P.

Thanks. My only concern is depth of field on the D800 and using it for "reality" style stuff. I'd hate for it to be buzzing all over the place.
