  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Can we get instructions how to prepare our cameras for upgrade?

What I'm asking is, do we have to strip our cameras to a certain level before sending them in? I have a 3rd party Nikon mount on both my cameras and no PL mount available, as was required when we sent in our R-1s for trade-in. Just hoping that the current mount we are using will suffice.

Not sure if this answers your question. Burt this is from the FAQ on scarlet upgrade:

To upgrade, send in your brain, SSD Side Module and DSMC Lens Mount or Front Body Cap only. To trade in, send in your brain and SSD Side Module only.

Thanks Bob... that's is what I was hoping to learn if the same applies to Epic. I would like clarification about sending in with the 3rd party mounts. I don't have a no-mount body cap for either camera so I need time to order one if that becomes necessary.

Thank you Bob. There will also be instructions when we notify you to send your camera in. In regards to the mount if you have a third party mount i would suggest removing it. We will do the necessary QC using a PL mount.

The FAQ leaves one question open though:
"To trade in, send in your brain and SSD Side Module only"... will we have to buy the front body cap in order to do so, or do we leave the front open and just wrap the brain into a bag first to avoid most of the dust?
Mine came with the Lens Mount and no body cap.

EDIT: I guess we were pretty much typing at the same time :)

Thanks Michael, that pretty much answers my question.

Ideally for your Dragon upgrade you should send your Epic camera in with only:

Brain (he he)
Side SSD 18" Module
Red PL Lens mount
or
Lens Cover

I agree Ketch. I ordered the body cap after reading Michael's reply. He didn't make it sound like we HAD to take off our third party lens mount, but that may become a requirement later on. I doubt RED will want to be responsible for anyone's non-OEM lens mount. And besides, I want my Dragon sensor to come out of the clean room, well, clean... so the body mount should protect the sensor on the camera's return trip to me.
