  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB13- Dragon Sensor Upgrade Program begins

Double checking here. Is the Rocket - X discount offer when ordered with the upgrade open ended for early adopters?

What happens is the Bomb Squad rep sends an email to see if you want one or not.

No idea how long until the firmware is nailed down or how long any stress testing will take. All I know is... I'm in line.

Somewhere in all of this, Jarred said the Rocket-X deal would be available as long as the upgrade deals were.

Terry, did you end up going Scarlet D or Epic? Just curious. I went Scarlet D immediately.... But of coarse I am second guessing myself every other minute.

When will the Rocket X be available? Would love to complete the purchase from last Monday since I need another RR Card and I am in the middle of completely upgrading my DIT Cart.

Cheers.

Did happen. Waiting on color science to be complete before any footage is possible.

Why would a working professional or rental house (early adopters) give up their camera for an upgrade if the engineering, firmware and testing process is not complete enough to show sample footage at NAB? Makes no sense Mate. If RED can't produce footage from the prototype cameras and movie studio they own - then Dragon is not ready to ship to the general public. No biggie but let's deal with reality here. Angénieux, Cooke and Canon showed working prototypes at NAB that are a year away from shipping - that stuff happens at trade shows. Back to work now with my Epic @5K

Then, if you not just saying it, but actually mean it, please release the proper LUT for RLF2Rec709. For years scores of users had been asking about it, but so far... crickets

Dear Red,

Even though your high end and extremely talented post friends in LA prob. make their own super duper LUTS for RedLogFilm and dont need help from you guys...

AS a DP it is almost impossible sitting in a DI suite and wanting to grade from RedLogFilm, when there is no official Redlogfilm to Rec709 LUT. All I can say when asked by a puzzled Colorist- is its a standard Cineon something- because that is the only official thing I have been able to read as an answer on this forum.

Ofcourse you can buy a third party plugin from Antlerpost - thank god!

BUT I hate to say it... but Arri has it on their website - and integrated w Resolve - why on earth does RED not have it?

Is this all you guys want? RLF Is nothing more than Cineon/DPX's log curve. Just tell your grading software to apply a Cineon -> Rec709 conversion. If you want RLF -> REDGamma3 it's slightly tricker but not much and can be had if you ask RED nicely.

I think it is READY NOW...thats what they wanted to show when they got that LAB at NAB 2013.....Right Jim..

Harcharan

Harcharan, with respect unless you know this for sure please do not post it. The question was for Jim or someone from Red who can answer with validity, as I said, no disrespect intended.

On red.com there is a new line of text on teh dragon update I didnt see before... "Upgrades estimated to begin in July 2013."... So thats that!

Just going off all the interviews and threads online. I was not at NAB personally. I believe it is true that Epics were upgraded with the Dragon hardware but will not be fully functional until RED gets the color science locked down tight. If I am wrong, I stand corrected. From every report and interview I have found, which I believe are true, there was numerous upgrades but those cameras still need solid firmware before producing the first Dagonized images.

That's only on the scarlet dragon page, and July estimate is not news in that regard.

Who's specific camera are you talking about? Link please to those who stated they have sent in their Epic for the upgrade. Let's not spread rumors here Mate.

Hey Josh, not my intention to spread rumors. Going off what I have been told was fact. Like I said, if this is not true, I stand corrected. I was not there but did follow it religiously moment to moment. I am sure you have seen this but here is an interview with Ted. I also read somewhere on the forum (not exactly sure where) that a preselected number of people would have the upgrade done there on site in terms of hardware. It was also stated that these people were selected in advance and there would not be "walk in upgrades" on site. Sounds like you we're either there or have heard otherwise...are you saying they in fact did not upgrade hardware as Ted states in this interview.

This is the direct quote I found from RED
"Don’t bring your camera, we have already pre-selected and obtained all the cameras that we have time to upgrade during the show and these will be shipped to their owners the week after NAB."

josh, where did you discover that this is all inaccurate?

I believe it is a quote from Jarred. You can find it on the following link and many others. http://cinescopophilia.com/red-dragon-sensor-upgrade-begins/

Here is the YouTube link from Ted...

Still sitting on the fence. Don't feel a particular need to be at the front of either line.
