I know this was addressed back in January, but since then does anybody know if there is an acceptable monitor hood for the 5" touchscreen? Hoodman's 5.6 hood is really not even a close fit if you have to gaffer tape out the gaps. When working outdoors a hood is a MUST. I use a styleus to control the camera when the Redmote is not working (about 50% of the time) so there should be a good hood out thee by now. Hoodman told me at NAB they'd have one soon, but there is nothing on their web site.

i havent had any light leaks on my hoodman 5.6. fits pretty snug. no complaints from anyone thats used it on my crew either.

hoodman is oke, but what really sucks it's so hard. The hood of the dp6 i can stick my head in, so i block all the light by my eyes, and it's a kind of viewfinder, if i stick my head against the hood man, light leaks around, maybe i should make a soft extension or something

New HOOD for Red touch screens, coming soon!

New HOOD for Red touch screens, coming soon!

Good news, ........coming soon ........is a new hood for the Red touch screen!

I have been proto testing a new hood from cinetactics.com.

Very user friendly and light weight for studio or field!

I love Greg's HD Matteblox, (Matte box) so this is another great collapsible product.

I am very impressed and the side toggles are easy to operate.

See photos.

Are there any hoods for the 9" screen. Last shot was very sunny and bright, not good

/Andreas

Why is shipping so expensive? This is a tiny item that weighs almost nothing and you guys want $80 to ship to Canada? That's absolutely ridiculous.

I was excited too because it looks like a great item but Shipping is more than the price of 2 of these hoods (with the discount)... why?

We don't want 80$, UPS does. If you are interested in less expensive shipping options we can ship via First Class give me a call or email.

Sidenote: Andrea I just checked your web site and facebook page for your project "Wildlife Rescue Movie - Costa Rica" -- Really awesome work!

Hey Greg,

I appreciate that UPS is the one that wants $80 but it definitely puts people like myself off of purchasing the unit to see that kind of thing come up at checkout... no one will ever pay that much for shipping. Most people probably aren't going to reach out and ask for cheaper shipping so if possible you should try and incorporate some other options on your site.

I like the look of the product and assuming I can get one shipped affordably am interested in it so I'm going to make an effort to pursue this but i'm just trying to help when I say that most other people will not.

Thanks Dennys!
It was fantastic to film these lovable creatures. Every day I miss them. What really caught me of guard where how kind and lovable these animals of the rainforest were. So many kisses did I recieve from the sloths. :)

Best wishes

Kennan Ward gave me the opportunity to get my hands on a prototype cinetactics hood and it's been awesome. I have the hoodman 5.6 as well, and it hasn't been on the camera since I received the cinetactics. It does a great job at keeping the screen visible in extremely bright conditions, while still allowing you to use the touch screen effectively. The built in buttons that line up with the 4 buttons on the side of the 5.6 touch work extremely well. At first I didn't think it'd all line up most of the time, but after using it for some time now I'm very impressed. Every time I've reached up to check focus or switch to raw mode the buttons just work.

Here it is on our Epic :)

I bought the Wooden Camera hood for the Red 4.7 " monitor. Very dissatisfied. I looked at the Hoodman unit and was unimpressed. Too expensive. The Wooden Camera hood cost $69 and the Hoodman cost around the same. Then I found the SmallRig hood for $14. This is way better than either of the others. It uses velcro straps and when mounted correctly will not wobble at all and blocks light around the top and sides. I highly recommend this unit, along with many of their other Red accessories. I've bought their accessory packs, and NATO rail VF mounts also and am very satisfied. The monitor requires a Wooden Camera 12" monitor cable, which is very well built and costs around $270. Well worth the money. And, SmallRig.com has stunning prices for their Red accessories.

I'm rigging 6 Ravens for the field and am on a very tight budget. I'm hoping that I can forgo purchasing dedicated viewfinders for the cameras. I believe that the 4.7" monitor, when properly hooded and moved from it's stupid location on the top of the camera will do the job.
