Howdy. I'm re-learning FCPX and working with Raw Clips for the first time all at the same time. I'm curious, is there a way to copy grading Meta data applied to a clip from within FCPX's RED plugin onto another clip, or do I have to go back to RedCineX and paste the new data there? If not, how do you do it?

To copy settings within FCP-X from one clip to the next, there is a very powerful function. Just select a clip, copy it, and then select the clip (or clips) where you want to past the specific attributes and hit Paste. When you do this, you will get a choice of exactly which attributes you want to paste.

Now - I know you are specifically asking about REDraw metadata so I'd suggest you simply try the above and see if it works with the metadata the way it works with FCP data. Since no one here is forthcoming as to whether it works, perhaps you can become the expert with a few simple keystrokes.

I'll try it myself when I get a chance but... :-)

Well, call me the expert then. Kinda tried that out of the gate. Copy/Paste. Been doing that since 1985. ;)

Yes, you can copy Effects, but Red Metadata isn't an effect. The Metadate sits under INFO, not fx. These settings don't come up in paste/ paste attributes.

Guess I'll keep trying it myself because.... ;-)

(PS - You can force FCPx to match to an already Metadata adjusted clip with the Match Color function, and it tries. I restate, "it tries." While it's in the ballpark using FCPx's Color Adjustment tools, you can see the difference and tell the matched clip isn't utilizing the Raw settings.)
