Hey everyone,

I've searched around on the forums for a while now, as well as the rest of the endless web, but am still having a bit of difficulty narrowing things down.

Pelican Cases
I'm wondering what the most convenient, roller Pelican is for hauling around a Scarlet with the following peripherals:
-5" screen
-REDVolts + charger
-XL Volts
-DSMC side handle
-quad charger + battery module
-Outrigger handle
-SSD cards
-REDMag Reader

Ideally, I'd like to have one case that fits all of this, and another that I can just bring as carry-on when flying internationally with basics (brain, side handle, reader, cards, RedVolts, 5" screen).

Laptops
Still want to stick with a MBP for carrying overseas as well, I just know the ancient one from 2006 won't cut it anymore!

-Are the last generation MBPs still good enough for basic dumping and editing?
-Are the newest retina display ones much better performance-wise?
-What recommended specs do you guys/gals have?

Thanks!
Brendan

1510 is roller and fits in almost every overhead I've seen on regular size planes. If you get stuck on a little puddle jumper at least you know its safe underneath in the pelican.

It's illegal to put REDVolts in a checked bag. I really appreciate this little law though since I always pack batteries in with my camera. When the stewardess tells me I have to check my bag since all the overhead bins are full I point out that I'm carrying Lithium Ion Batteries--they have to pull someone else's bag. :P

I wonder how they'd handle this on international flights. I flew KLM with my DSLRs this summer and they have a max weight of 11kg (24lbs) for carry-on. The Pelican 1510 already weighs in at 11lbs, and the camera brain is 5lbs. Curious what essentials people pack for carry-on international travel and what they trust in checked baggage? I am always terrified of checking any of my bodies/lenses/essentials.

Very good inquiry Brendan...I too use to have my 1510 and Kata backpack on board until the weight restrictions. If you have the capacity and bandwidth ($$)...opt for Fedex. I've been allocating shipping cost in the budget and I've even included my luggage. The convenience of no check in and ease of navigation in and out of the plane is worth it. I simply shipped via Fedex insured straight to the hotel in HK, AUS, PHI & ITA with no hitch.

I use the 1495 for my laptop if I'm on the road with the laptop only. If I'm on the road with a cam/accessories and a laptop, I use the 1510. pelican cases really are the best. we've got a couple of explorer cases but they're not nearly as good as pelican.

These have all been great replies! I have decided to go with the IM2500, which is the Storm version of the 1510 (without backpack straps). I will post photos once I get things worked out!

Any suggestions now for basic setup with a Macbook Pro? I can't afford a breakout box, but I'm assuming I should spec out the laptop as much as possible?

My 2011 17" MBP is working quite well. I would prefer a Retina for what seems to be a big performance and resolution increase. The only two downfalls of the Retina is the lack of a ExpressCard slot for my XDCAM EX cameras, and it's only 15".

oh, one more thing I need to add:
as I said I got myself the 1495 (the one with the fancy leather lid organiser with space for your charger, phone, cables and documents). the case is absolutely great and I highly recommend it BUT do not get that lid organiser!!! the lid organiser makes the case defy it's purpose of protecting what's inside because it simply doesnt hold your laptop in place! my macbook was banging around freely inside the case when I plucked the foam the way Pelican tells you to and the way they advertise it in their product shots! the lid organiser's zipper also scratched my laptop's surface. so, long story short, I immediately unscrewed that stupid organiser and ordered replacement foam for the lid and have been happy with it ever since!
