I'm sorry if this has been addressed or if it's a tutorial but I'm not finding a workflow for this.

Basically, all I want to do is to punch into a file to create a CU or MCU of a shot, but retain it as an R3D file (with metadata, etc.). I can export as a DNxHD QT, no problem... however, when I try to do it as an R3D Trim (?), I have the crop box but it doesn't seem to export a new R3D file that's zoomed in. It's just the same file, no zoom. Is this even possible?

Is there a tutorial I'm missing... what am I doing wrong? Sorry for not being too well-versed on Redcine X :/

I could be wrong, but i do not believe it is possible to create 'new' r3d files, any adjustment - including cropping - would be a meta data adjustment to the original file.

Thanks Daniel... this could be true (not sure if a Red Team Member wants to weigh in). I've been driving myself nuts over this as I want to just finish in Avid, but, for some reason, unlike Premiere, Avid isn't native file size yet, just 1080 so I have to enlarge it outside of the program. I'm hoping in Avid 7, they finally upgrade... but that's another topic.

I'll just output some DNxHD QTs in the meantime... I just have to make sure the color is as close to finished as possible... rather not do 'raw' QTs and try to replicate the look in Avid, as I got it pretty close in camera (just have to pop the shadows a little as I was protecting my highlights).

The only way available to physically modify an R3D file is by doing an R3D Trim where you can export a single frame, or a sequential series of frames to a new .R3D file. All other modifications within REDCINE-X are metadata only and do not alter the original files in any way.

Ah, thanks Grant. I'm glad to clear this up finally.

If you don't need audio, then it sounds like there's a work-around way to do that frame sequence (manually?) while zoomed in.

Well again, the zoom is just in metadata. It won't actually zoom your R3D trimmed clip.

To do an R3D Trim on a sequence of frames from a single clip, just set the in and out points on the clip and export as an R3D Trim.
