I'm looking to shoot a time laps, has anyone had any experience with this? Is it possible... This will be my 1st shot at a time lapse...

I've done it before, the Scarlet can go up to 12fps @5k but for most time lapses I'd say 3fps is good enough. I haven't tried the new beta firmware, but I hear it has new time lapse options.

A Scarlet has the same time-lapse capabilities that an Epic has.

I have used the Scarlet's timelapse features more than a few times, and to be completely honest, it isn't an enjoyable experience for me. The results are decent enough, but not so good that I was convinced to stop using my DSLR in favor of Scarlet. Don't get me wrong, it is capable, sure, but it is difficult to argue against the relative ease and portability of a simple DSLR!

What were your problems? I've found it way easier than my DSLR. So much easier to review too...

I think what he's talking about is not having the ability to do longer shutter speeds then 1 second.

DSLR has a big advantage if your shot changes exposure much and you need the camera to adjust with the light meter and auto iris or shutter selection. Cityscapes with moving cars look great in my opinion with a shutter's duration that is increasing to blur car lights as the sun goes down from a bright afternoon exposure....not sure how to do that with the Epic.

Can't dynamically change the shutter-speed but you can use HDRx in order to accomodate a wider dynamic range over the course of the time-lapse. With some very simple key-framing in Da Vinci or other grading software, you've no accommodated for the changing desired level of exposure.

Not 100% the same, but it's an option.

Scarlet-X 5k Timelapse with 4 to 16 seconds exposure time ...

Scarlet-X 5k Timelapse with 4 to 16 seconds exposure time ...

Hello !

With the beta 4.0.8 fimware I did a few tests of Scarlet-X Timelapse with 4 to 16 seconds exposure time at 5k two months ago ...

You have to dial in 360° shutter angle and use frame summing or averaging depending on your light situation.

It works practically as a continuous exposure. So you get 1 /2 /4 /8 /16 seconds of exposure time at the moment.

So I made traffic car lights appear as long trails (4-8 secs mostly) . . . ;-)

This is a little tricky to set up, but the results are very pleasing and easy to playback directly after shooting so this is much more convenient then using a DSLR which I did before and the image quality is stunning.

(Sorry for this lenghty uncut ungraded test footage)

I love these new features for timlapse and animation and hope that the firmware release version allows for more control and easier access.

Regards,

Marcus
