Sorry for the silly question but..

If one buys a RED battery belt for the red epic, will it take any V mount battery or only red bricks?

Any V-mount will work.

Yes - but if you want percentage-reading take a closer look if your V-mount battery supports this!
(a rule for V-mount in gerneral, not only the belt-clip)

you can always go with "China-brands" (I don't have names here, you'll find that stuff at e.g. ebay, craigs list...) - but keep in mind that the chance for an early death or faster capacity-drain is much higher with those! Cheaper is not always the best long-term solution for many reasons
