  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

FLOW - 4K long exposure time lapse experiment

Going to be hard to take long exposure very far on the EPIC until RED resolves a few things. May not be possible with the MX sensor as it is now. Currently EPIC is limited to a maximum exposure time of 1 second. Seeing how you did your long exposure effect as a post process, that is entirely do-able. Would be interesting to see the effects of actual long exposure acquisition on this sort of subject.

Anyway, I thought it was cool. The front of the car wasn't as exciting throughout the whole piece as it was static with clouds rolling over it. I thought the title animation was superb. In your FX breakdown, I really liked the coloring you were getting with the difference blending. Would be cool to see it finished with that in addition to just monochrome.

Thanks Jeff, much appreciated! Yeah, I agree that one shot was a bit long... but it was just a test that got a little out of hand :-) The title sequence and other graphics are all made out of that same shot BTW (more info on my blog: http://armanddijcks.com/blog/2013/2/18/capturing-the-flow-of-light )

The long exposure would have to be done in post, not so much because of the capabilities of the Epic, but because the movement becomes much too fast if you use real long exposure. What I had in mind is to film the reflections in a car as it drives though a landscape at a fairly high frame rate. Then slow it down and apply the long exposure look in post.
