Could be anywhere in the world today.
Dragged in to see OZ with the kids... Now know disrespect to the VFX guys, the DP or anyone involved in creating all the bits and bobs of the movie...
But seriously has to be the worst movie I have seen from Disney in a very long time. It was like there was know director at the helm... Know body at the helm other than research groups and Producers...
Absolute tripe...
If I was an actor in that movie... I'd be seriously worried about my street cred after appearing in that.

I was excited when I heard Disney had bought the Star Wars franchise.. but now I'm worried sick.

O well... such as life.

On the other had, Cloud ATLAS was AMAZING !!!!!! so the week of moving watching wasn't all that bad. :)

I saw the first 20 minutes in the theater of it when we were setting up a shot for a commercial. I ended up pointing a 1.2k at the screen to wash it out because how bad it was.

I'm in no hurry to rush to the theater to see these sorts of films. Their aimed at, or seem to be an extension of Walmart monoculture.

Beasts of the southern wild. There's a film. Characters like hushpuppy are the Dorethy of our times.

It's not even a remake, it's kind of semi-prequel and proposed reboot of the franchise (in Disney's hands). Apparently Disney is pretty happy with the box-office results, so they're in the making of second one already ;) Personally, I've sat through much much worser examples of kids/family movie, so it's all ok.

P.S.
Sam Raimi just coudn't let go with all of the Army of Darkness references, lol.

I thought the visuals were good but the story lacked any depth but I guess thats what happens when a movie is PG and made for kids.

Cloud Atlas will blow your mind over and over haha.

Perhaps I took my 13yr old sensibility with me and felt for two hours
I didn't have to think about anything other than what was in front of me
And thought that was the point. As for the social commentary that the
Original film described of that times economic strife I couldn't conclude
If it had been weaved into the prequel, but I can't say it was taken into
Consideration.
To each his own I suppose.

I haven't seen the movie but from the trailer what's up with the skin tones? Is it like that in the movie? They look orange! I guess they tried to "emulate" 3 strips and failed.

Sorry to disagree, also, but I enjoyed it when I took my 8 & 11 year old. They loved it. I thought he did a good job at doing a "throwback" style of movie. Even the acting was a little over the top by today's standards, but I am guessing that was their intent. Oh well...it sure is making a ton of money.

you people have it all wrong...you dont go in there to see the wizard of Oz....Mila Kunis in 4K......what else could you want from this ^^
I havent seen it yet cause I'm overseas, but someone please tell me she looks amazing.

She does look good. But that's bound to happen...

my kids saw it and said they could make a better film if I would loan them a green screen.

Well my kids think that about practically everything, and they aren't even teens yet. I guess that is the power of being a kid.

This is to the '39 MGM Wizard of Oz, what Episode I was to Star Wars. ...just sayin' I really don't know if I can sum it up more precisely or better than that. My 9 year old liked it, but it did let her down. She had much higher hopes for the movie. So, given that it couldn't live up to the expectations of a 9 year old who had really been looking forward to seeing it... Yeah, I sat through the whole movie thinking, well it looks pretty good, I guess...

Considering the depth of Baums original Oz stories and the fact that Disney owns rights to many of them, plus related things, I would have thought they would come up with something a lot better.

I thought Franco did very well with the material he had to work with. Kunis continued her trend of being out of place in the role she was cast for. She still looked great, as she normally does.

As much as I want to rip on the screenplay and whatnot, we just have to recognize that Disney has a formula. They show it continuously, regardless of who is writing or directing. Just like 2010's Alice in Wonderland, the film felt shallow and incomplete. And yet the box office returns are strong for Oz, and also very much in-line with the pace of earnings for Alice, which did exceedingly well. I'm not so sure Disney would do better, or even as well, if they deviated from what is working for them. Based on the current state of Disney entertainment and what was shown in the trailers, the film was exactly what I expected. I thought there would be some better writing, but I knew enough to not expect any more substance than what was delivered. And Raimi still snuck in a few nods to AoD.

The film does look good. Too bad the writing wasn't on-par with the visuals.

And this is the good bit of this forum... you are allowed to disagree :) Hey... its making money and the kids like. Win Win.

Sorry Dom... she hot, but not in this film.

Agreed !

That's priceless!

Worldwide box office in just 10 days = $281,826,000 - so ..... give your kids the green screen ASAP :)

So with the current math... $281,826,000 Divided by 6... because thats usually the rule of thumb once you take out cinema percentages at least half, actor backdoors, Print & advertising... and etc etc etc etc etc....
So thats about $ 46,974,333 before tax... The film cost $215,000,000 to make... Still a bit more to go as yet to break even... unless Disney own all the cinemas.
