Hi All,

Every so often, once I've finished a take and cut, the red record icon goes yellow on the LCD and the camera won't record again.

I can't find mention in the documentation of what this means, does anyone know?

A reboot sorts it out but it seems to require a hold-down-power-button restart (and consequent "Not shut down properly" warning).

I've had it a few times in the past but yesterday I had it three times shooting one scene, so I'm a bit concerned.

Scarlet, 64 GB redmag, 5" Touch LCD, power via RED V-mount, vintage lenses via M42 -> EF adaptor ring, AL EF mount if any of that helps.

The only thread I could find said it might be a wait for autofocus, but these are dumb MF lenses so don't think it can be that.

Anyone know what could be causing this or what I should be doing differently to prevent it happening?

Cheers, Hywel.

When I stays yellow for a second, it's posting the media to the SSD.

Does it happen after long takes?

check your record button mapping as well ad make sure it's set to toggle.

It stays on for way longer than a few seconds. Long enough that I had to hard restart the camera to shoot the next shot- maybe 30+ seconds? I hadn't noticed it come out of that state on its own.
I have a feeling it might tend to happen more after longer takes, though.

We're shooting again today so I'll:
a) Keep the camera switched on and give it as long as I can bear to see if it goes away after time.
b) See if I can figure out more precisely when it is happening, especially if it is longer takes.

I may be a firmware update or two behind, too, but I'm NOT going to install new firmware 20 minutes before today's model arrives :-)

Hopefully it is that- would be nice! Thanks for the help, guys.

Cheers, Hywel.

Also try to secure format your Redmag. (Media> Utils>SecureFormat. Keep in mind after performing a secure format on this REDMAG you will not be able to retrieve any footage recorded to it prior to the secure format with tools such as RED Undead.)
Cheers, Ulf

Maybe you have by accident (or on purpose) activated a pre-roll? With one of the early V.4 builds the rec will return to preroll (yellow) after a take and sometimes freeze. I had this happen to me few times with the first V.4 build
After updating this went away...

Hmmm. Didn't happen on set today once! Didn't change anything. Possibly was shooting shorter takes, I'd have to go back and analyse. Only used some of the REDmags today so maybe it is Mag specific, will try the secure format when everything is offloaded and backed up x 3.

Bizarre. Will check these various other possibilities out, thank you.

Cheers, Hywel.

If it happens again please file a support ticket and save a log file so we can look into it.

Next time it happens also check the SSD tally light to see if it is still flashing (means its writing data)

I had this happen to me on a shoot. It appears that the lenses that we were using had non-functional electronic contacts for an EF mount. We taped over the contacts on the lenses and it stopped happening.
