  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Nikon to Canon adapter

Has anyone had experience with the cheap adapters sold on Ebay ?

yep, useless !
they dont fit properly, depending on the lens you use they could be either too wobbly or too tight. took me once a good 5 minutes to get it off my 2K nikkor lens, was close to getting the hacksaw out to cut the bloody thing off. dont waste your money.

remember they also only work with manual lenses that have an iris ring, those cheap adaptors dont transmit lens data or electronics, so they are pointless to use on any newer nikon glass.

Eugene: I found that a lot of these manual adapter rings are very poorly built and dont handle the weight of most bigger lenses well....remember you are screwing a short metal adapter onto the lens, which then sits in between the lens and the camera mount....this always leaves room for error, light leaks or can cause the lens not to fit snug into the mount.

Yes a proper nikon/ canon mount for the epic/scarlet is much more expensive than these adapters, but on the long run they are a much better and safer solution....Imagine you would have to cut off one of these adapters from your lens because they got stuck, or the lens breaks out of the mount because they cant hold the lens weight properly, damaging lens and camera mount at the same time, too much of a risk in my opinion.

I was using one of these style of adaptors between my Nikon lenses in the interim before the Nikon mount was released. It's definitely suboptimal but it's a workable solution in a pinch. I have only used it once since I got the Nikon mount, two weeks ago when I had to swap mounts to use some Canon macro lenses.
Mine has an aperture adjustment slider on it and it's really frustrating not being able to know what f stop you're shooting at, other than whatever your wide open position is. If I were you I'd definitely invest in the Nikon mount, if that's the majority of your lens collection.

I am doing a small shoot and I have a set of Nikons but I don't have the money to drop on a Nikon mount at the moment. I was looking for a short temporary solution.

Thanks everyone.

I got a DSMC Nikon mount, you need a wrangler that can do spare part rentals lol? Nah seriously just network with other RU guys in your area or rent the mount. I mean for a 700 dollar mount the day rates gotta be fairly cheap i am sure. go rent a third party one if your really strapped for cash...
