I am currently directing a 3 part doc. series on prehistoric life, and I am looking for an Octocopter suitable for carrying an EPIC
in Louisiana or Florida to shoot in the bayou areas some backplates to insert prehistoric insects. We have our own EPIC and set of lens,
so it will be a matter of 2 or 3 days shoot, either during the second or 4th week of April. As I am willing to create some prehistoric giant insect POVs,
I am not looking for a small chopper; the Octocopter is really what I need. Anyone can advise ?

Bertrand,
i also looking for a good deal on this for a shoot in Los Angeles.
Would you please let me know after your shoot is done and your experience with the team?
good luck.

Shapour, the nearest I found so far is... Montreal in Canada. The owner is reliable, works in tandem with a co-pilot, and commutes between France and Canada with his toy. His trailer is impressive, but the transportation costs may kill us. However, if we join forces, it might make sense. How long and when is your shoot planned ?

I can also vouch for the guys at snaproll, i know them all personally and they are fantastic to work with, and produce amazing footage. Worth every penny.

Hi Bertrand,

I have one here in Africa if your flexible on location. We could head up to Lake Natron and film around Lengai? It's very prehistoric looking! I'll be here till mid April.

I have an Infinite jib Skyjib 8 which is their most robust. http://infinitejib.com

There is also some amazing forest, jungle locations here in Arusha for great POV shots.

bertrand,
my shooting dates are not confirmed and will be very difficult to commit to any thing at this time.
im hoping to find a company with great reel and reasonable rate so I can include them in to few of my upcoming projects.

Hi all,

I have been pretty reluctant to use the Octocopters so far, as I considered their imagery to be shaky ( compared to CINEFLEX), limited in duration and the toy itself too noisy to film wildlife without scaring it... until we have this new series commissioned, where an episode is dealing partly with prehistoric giant insects ! The Octocopter+ EPIC is the PERFECT tool suddenly to create all the backplates I need (we will deliver the show in 4K) and create some insects POVs. To go beyond certain Octocopter capabilities, we will also use some ziplines for other episodes to navigate through trees. I will shoot in the Louisianna bayous next April-May with such toys: an air boat will be the shooting platform where the Octocopter will land in the water ways.

So... we have asked some quotes to all folks you kindly advised, thanks again. Decision will be taken during week 10 ( March, 11th). If you have other suggestions, it is still time.

Michael: good to see you here ! I take good note you have the Octo in Tanzania. For our new series, I don't think we'll use it in Africa, except perhaps if you can suggest a cycad forest without any grass
on the ground. If you shoot more volcanic activity with it, please note we could represent your stock footage. We have now gathered the largest erupting volcanoes HD library (42+ !) in the world, starting to sell for feature, commercials, etc... no one wants to risk a volcanic shoot these days, so they all turn to archive !!! One thing we are missing, which they are all asking: a pyroclastic flow. If you can shoot this with the Octocopter, I can guarantee I sell it. Even us, for our new series, will be interested !

But keep in mind... Safe shoots ! B.

I worked with SnapRoll Media over a year ago and made this Behind the scenes video.. Its kinda long but you can see them in action: https://vimeo.com/30936457
(its one of my first videos i made so dont judge.)

Vilet, this was a cool BTS video. Shoot looks like it was alot of fun

Sorry for bump on this old post.

We offer high end aerial video using RED EPIC / SCARLET / 5Dmkiii on our custom build octocopters, based in Pretoria South Africa. Footage is clean and stable (no "shakey" as mentioned above). RED EPIC drone at www.dronecrew.co.za .

Speaking of aerials...

We have put together a team now with a pilot, camera operator and the BLACK ARMORED DRONE
The payload is 20 pounds. So while most of the rigs can carry an epic with canon lenses, we can provide cine lenses, remote follow focus and some extra love.

I just put together some shots you can see here:

Password: drone

PM me for info. Will travel all over the world.
