Ok, people. In October of 2010 I purchased my first RED, an R1MX (thank you Ketch!). In May of 2011 I went to Reducation and by that September I had an Epic M. I've made some great friends along the way and had a whole lot of fun...

This is what we've been up to...

Really nice stuff.. Love the way the first scene is lit.. Especially when he is on the bed.. Really nice.. As far as a REEL goes, you might want to mix it up a bit quickly.. People might get the idea you just did one project? My 2 CENTS

Thanks for the feedback! It's comprised of 4 different shorts. I was kind of torn on whether to mix them all up or do 4 little teasers. In the end I felt like mixing them up would just feel like I was trying to hide that there were only 4 shorts I pulled from. Certainly I'll break it up more as we keep shooting ;)

Nice work Christopher! I like your lighting!

Hi Christopher,

Some lovely lighting and compositions in there. It definitely needs to be broken up more - it feels too obviously like there's only a couple of shorts to show off. And the music could do with a change I think, I found it rather unengaging, which is the last thing you want when you're only showcasing visuals with no dialogue.

I was a fan of the music, on the contrary to Mark. That opening scene is some powerful stuff.

Funny, I'm in the middle of the same thing - putting together a first showreel with only about 3 - 4 pieces I'm really happy with. This has helped my train of thought, so thank you!

Hi Christopher,
That's a great reel and great work. As others have stated a reel is usually mixed but keeping the films separate the way you have in the reel keeps your work clear and shows your consistency within each film.

Nice work, some really nice shots - it's better than my first reel!!
Keep shooting dude, good luck and good light :)

So... Now having this little moving calling card, I have to wonder what the hell to do with the thing? How do you get your's out there? Where is "out there?" My business has always come from word of mouth and long standing relationships so I have very little marketing experience. What I want to pursue is shooting more narrative work.

Looks great Christopher.

Compositions are strong, great color design. I'm particularly a fan of the subject matter itself -- and how your images compliment the story. As visual story tellers not only are we expected to have superior technical knowledge of our craft, but also be able to create stunning imagery with the tools that we are expected to know. So many shooters (in my opinion) dive so, so deep into that 'technical' realm, and fall flat with 1:1 ratios, unflattering camera movement, ... and although I can totally understand that style of lighting for specific interviews, commercial projects, and even in some narrative situations, it's DEFINITELY far too common, and overused. For some reason?

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is -- your work stands out, it's stylized which shows you have a great, (developed) eye, and with a developed eye shows immense experience (I had once heard somewhere an artist/photography (cant remember) needed xxx,xxx thousands, hundreds of hours, to be able to achieve 'that' status, if anyone remembers this quote, I'd love to know) anyway, you're on your way man. Awesome work.

That set-design is pretty stellar too, I've never had the opportunity to have the budget (or creative control) for the art design I've preferred, and that was on element that stood out as well.

Keep on' keepin' on fellow cameraman. Great work.
