David Fincher Epic Monochrome Music Video

So a few months back, I heard that David Fincher was working on a small project using a prototype Epic Monochrome. Well today, this was released and I am willing to bet that this was the project in question. If this is the first real "cinematic" Monochrome footage, then I am very impressed.

Wow. Fincher seems to be keeping up his "House of Cards" style here! Very few closeups, very observational, lots of mediums and wides.

The blacks are a bit too lifted for my taste. I didn't peep anything that hit black in the entire video (maybe it's just Youtube). It's beautiful though. The camerawork is very restrained and tableaux. Nice!

I really loved the compositions. Yes I too noticed the observer feel. All the shots are pretty much spectator level and below the eyeline.

Good call about below the eyeline. You're right. Kind of puts us (the audience) in a hero gaze peering up at the "stars".

It's so funny to me that Fincher seems partial to horizontal flares but never shoots anamorphic anymore. Look at Zodiac, it had digitally-added blue streaks. Maybe the Zeiss Master Anamorphics will be his ticket back into scope photography...?
