I am looking to purchase a very good clip-on mattebox. Has anyone tried the LMB-25 yet? Any opinions? Pros and cons?

Thanks!

They are awesome! I only have one so far, but I'm very impressed. Just as lightweight as an LMB5, but with a third stage and each stage has independent locks. Everything before this (for me) was a third party mod of an LMB5 that was rife with compromise. Buy with confidence - the third stage opens up lots of great possibilities that used to mean switching to a big ass heavy iris rod mounted matte box.

That sounds amazing Jay. Thank you for your information.

I ended up picking one up today. Everything you said was correct, Jay. The mattebox is amazing quality, lightweight, and the accessories like tray catcher are great. Recommended to anyone needing a clip on mattebox.

thanks for the feedback guys!!
anyone tried it with the duclos 11-16mm @ 5K?
Is it usable under 16mm?
What's the widest lens you used with 3 stages @ 4K and @ 5K?
thanks again!

I will have to test it out on Epic. On Alexa it covers the 11mm on the Tokina just fine with 3 stages attached.

David, that's GREAT thanks!!!
I own a Scarlet right now and I rent Epic when I need it so it is good to know I can use Tokina/Duclos 11-16mm @ 11mm @ 4K!!

I have the duclos and a LMB15 (very similar to the LMB25). You should be fine on 2 stages to 11mm (at4k). The challnege is that Arri's 80mm back sits further back than their 95mm... the pic on the Arri web site is slightly missleading. If you can find a 80mm back that the split ring sits flush against the back then it should be acceptable for lots of shots at 5k (ws, 2k and HD.. not full 5k)..

PS Sorry I haven't go back re: dedo ballest yet

Michael, I think I found a trick...
why don't you try with the 77mm to 114mm ring and than the 114mm clamp back?
I think it's worth trying! ;)

Yeah waiting your reply ;)

Thanks for sharing Conrad. Yes, I have checked out this mattebox and was highly impressed with the quality of the build and the practical options!

Hi David,

Sorry to jump in on your thread... I have just bought myself a Strummer Matte Box from BRIGHT TANGERINE, and I have to say, this is like nothing I've ever seen. This thing is so well crafted it’s more in line with a piece of equipment destined for a trip to Mars, than a device used on the end of a lens to block the sun.

Without a doubt it’s probably one of the finest, most likely, “the best” I’ve ever used. I love it. And it looks absolutely stunning as well.
