Sapphire Effects for RED Epic

Hi.. We are doing research to see if RED Epic is the right camera for our production. We will be doing allot for effects shots like those done with Sapphire Effects, by Gen Arts. Does anyone know if these effects will work with Epic files. If not, what would be used in its place and how much would such a package cost? This will be a low budget production working on a tight budget....Thank You, Norman

You can make footage from the red work with just about any program or plugin you can imagine. After effects can natively read .R3D media which is where I use most of my Sapphire plugs. Nuke as well.

Are you mastering out in 2k? when finished. The reason why I ask is Saphire plugins are a heavey to render plugin. Easpliy with grain and blurs.. they are the best though.
5k rendering will take a very long time...
2k rendering 5 to 6 times less...

Mr. Norman you can use Saphire plugin for free as a trial if you wish to test it. Just send your request at genarts.com. But it looks like you want to shot the footage fx similar to Saphire FX using the camera? If I guess, than you are on the right way! A lot of Fx footage like at digitaljuice.com was shot using a RED One camera. Even an older camera than Red Epic. So if you wish to create your own fx footage I think that Red Epic is possibly the best tool for that (only if you don't want to get an fx of flying bullets or another extremely fast processes).

my advice... get someone who knows what they're doing with fx.

epic is fine - doesn't matter what files you use, you can convert them or use the raw files.

if it's fx driven, and that low budget i'd put more money into the post-production and get a scarlet or something cheaper - better to have decent footage and decent fx than beautiful footage and terrible fx.
