Well, had the chance to put my new RED Scarlet to the test as it arrived just days before 2 BIG Music Video shoots for Jamaican pop sensation Omi. We shot one of the videos at regular speed 24fps at 4k and it looks gorgeous! But the other music video I wanted to try something a little different. In the past I've experimented with variable frame rates for singing shots. shooting at 36fps and having the talent sing the song at a sped up 150% and I've also done 18fps. and had them sing to the song at 75%. when put into a 24 fps timeline each look is different but adds drama. slowmo singing or sped up singing. but this was the first time I decided to shoot an entire music video at 12fps. and have the singer sync to a 50% slowed down version of the song.then edit at 24fps. the result is a highly animated sped up look and we got away with 5k on the Scarlet! not stills but video. I'm sure someone has shot 5k video on the Scarlet. the downside was...in FCPX the program started to bog down (no red rocket) with all the layers of 5k footage and it got to the point where I was having trouble syncing the lips so i had to turn around and export pro res to 1080 and re-edit in fcp 6. ughhh. the video looked so clean in FCPX. I shot this video with the cheapest glass you can find from Canon. 15mm 2.8 EF, 28mm 2.8 EF, and the 50mm 1.8 EF. hope to bump up to some Zeiss primes here soon! I love my RED!

i tried that route too but then couldnt adjust raw settings. did i do it wrong? is there another way?

Once proxies are generated, you can switch back and forth to the RAW files. If you need to adjust the original, the proxy file for that clip will regenerate.

Great work! Very creative! Now I'm thinking about how I can use this.

Thats was fun. Good Job!

Yes, great work for sure!! There is nothing quite like leveraging a 'limitation' to one's creative advantage, such as you did with this gem. I believe it is a stronger piece because of the fact that it was shot at 12fps. Thanks for the inspiration, and keep up the good work!!

I agree! It almost has the look of old stop animation. Creative!

Great look! I love when people take a limitation and let it be the inspiration for ideas.
