  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Is there an option to shoot "tethered" with a computer like a studio photographer?

I was shooting some detail shots in our studio is week (I work at Arc'teryx, we make rain jackets www.arcteryx.com) and one of our studio photographers asked me if the epic can shoot "tethered". What she was wondering is, could you run an HD-SDI or HDMI cable out of the camera and into a computer with REDCINE-X PRO open and record directly to the computer. If a cable was made that was HD-SDI on one side and USB3/Thunderbolt on the other side, would this be possible? I know this cable probably doesn't exist but I thought I would ask.

Thoughts anyone?

My first reaction would be that it wouldn't work. Especially since the max resolution you will get from the HDSDI is 1080p.

BTW love the Arc'teryx brand of gear, I use a ton of your stuff for climbing.

cheers
Colin

Something similar to the Phantom Camera Control software, but for the Epic, would be nice.

Yes the question I have to ask is.... why? You will be limited to 1080p. If you really want to go this route, check out Black Magic products as they have free software that interface with the hardware that will allow capture directly to the computer.

I'm talking about a camera control application via a lap top, not the Black Magic stuff. I've had many times when being able to control the camera from a laptop would've been beneficial. The F65's ability to allow camera control from a computer is nice.

I forgot that I would be limited to 1080p. I guess what I wanted to know was "is there a way to make the epic work the way a studio photographer can shoot tethered to a computer with Lightroom open and have access to full resolution raw images?"

its not a big deal, I am more then happy to still shoot to RedMags and then offload, I justed wanted to see if there was any solution for this application.

Saying that your company makes "rain jackets"is like saying RED makes "digital cameras."

The point of the thread was to ask a question, not educate people about Arc'teryx :) I assumed that most people would know us through our jackets, instead of our climbing gear.
