Hello all,

Just a quick question that I cannot find an answer for online. Does anyone know if the Manfrotto 509PLONG will work with the 502HD fluid head?

Many thanks,
~Omar

I know the 509 long will work with the 501.. So I don't see why it wouldnt work with the 502 but don't quote me on it.

I agree Marko. Manfrotto is a bit cryptic about their plate specs.
The 509PLONG plate works with the "Manfrotto 577 Rapid Connect Adapter" (B&H has them). You can use the 509PLONG plate on the 501, 503, 504, and 509 heads without any issue.
Which also means you can use those shorter plates on the 509 head if you need to.

By combining the info above from our trusted Phil and this page: http://www.tripodmarket.com/manfrotto-mvh502ah-tripod-head-502hd.html
I would conclude the answer is YES - 509PLONG will work on 502HD.

Thanks guys!

Sorry to revive this, but was wondering if everything worked out for you Omar (using the 509LONG with 502HD)? I was looking into getting a 504 to hold me over until I could afford the 509, but was also going to use the 577 Rapid Connect quick-release (with 509PLONG tripod plate) as well... I'd prefer not buying a bunch of plates/quick-releases only to have to replace everything when I upgrade to the better head.

...Actually I was hoping to use these instead, since they're so much cheaper (but with the actual manfrotto long plate).

Hi Mike,

What I ended up doing was going for the 509 and 504 heads, and using the 509plong plate interchangeably with both. I decided to get the 504 instead of the 502, so I apologize because I haven't tested the 502.

You could try asking on some of the other forums if anyone has experience with using the 509plong plate on the 502, or perhaps even give Manfrotto a call.

Hope this helps!
Omar

That's actually perfect Omar as I'm looking at the 504 (to be replaced by the 509 eventually). So, yes, that helps! Thanks!
