Just like the title says, our newly purchased battle-tested R1 has decided not to stop reading our Red SSD media, it claims they are “SLOW MEDIA” as the titles suggests. The media is a 256 and 2x 128 SSDs and we've tried all three of them on our older R1 and the cards work fine.

The Red One in question is a battle-tested Red One MX with a side SSD Module and PL mount.

My question is: Has anyone else here had this same issue? What did you do to resolve it? Is this a warranty repair fix, or is there possibly something we might do here to resolve this?

How's the camera setup to record? Resolution, framerate, redcode, etc? Not all cards are fast enough to record at the higher settings.

Make sure all the project configuration settings are the same. I'm guessing your timebase or RC settings or even fps settings are causing the problem. For example, if you want to shoot 4K with a 29.97 timebase, you will need to change to RC36 or RC28 instead of the highest quality compression on the Red1 (RC42). The media can't write fast enough with predictable reliability to enable such project configurations, and that isn't the only combo that doesn't work. The good news is that RED media is incredibly reliable. If all your settings are the same, I'd get in touch with your bombsquad rep at RED right away. Good luck.

Weird. 4k HD works, but 4k 16:9 does not.

Is there some reference for what media can record at what settings somewhere?

Damn, y'all are fast :) Forget what I said. Except the part about getting in touch with RED.

WOW that did it. Apparently, we had different redcode settings on each camera and I didnt know it. The camera will not record to rc42 at 4k 24fps. 36 or whatever is the highest. Thank you for the quick responses guys. Love this forum.

Cool, glad you got it figured out. Would love to find a reference chart to what media will record at what settings. Can be confusing on set.

Red One Operation Guide, pages 47-48.

Though it does silently drop 4K 16x9 from the RC42 chart, rather than leave it in with N/A or something next to it, which would make it easier to spot.
