  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hi

I'm using the new Custom Overlay system to build myself a way to use my non-Red LCDs, in custom overlay mode without having menus displayed. That way I have all the regular information, but full screen with look around.
What I want is to click a button, and use the jog to change the value (1-2-3-4-light // fps-rez-integrationtime-color balance...).

So I used the keymap system to assign the number key a function : Slot: Set XXX.
The problem is that if I don't have a second Live output where the Menu is on, the assignable function Slot: Set is not working.
I thought it might be the Tools utility in the "Monitor Mode" but so far, I didn't notice any change. I'm not using Show Dialogue: XXX to be faster.

What am I doing wrong as I'm sure it's doable, it's seems pretty basic.

Another thing, does anybody have been able to get the Auto Preset to work ?
I have two sets of key, with minor differences (prev. Clip, play-pause, next clip). On both my camera (Epic and Scarlet) it's working one time, but it's always stuck in playback mode, and I can't have my original set of keys when coming back to the preview mode.

Am I doing something wrong here too ?

Thanks for the help !

You could do this on a different way. Create a preset for every jog-dial-mode that you need by applying that function to the dial and then saving a preset with only the setting for that dial in it. Then assign the presets to the number-keys via "Assign Preset ...:" (or whatever that is called).

Hmm, sorry, that was misleading. I now had the time to verify my idea and play with my camera. Unfortunately the needed actions aren't completely there. It would work with "ISO: Increase/Decrease", "Integration Time: Increase/Decrease" and even "Focus: Near/Far", but there is nothing for fps, rez, wb. I guess thats why you wanted to go with the Set Slot-mechanism, hehe.

You aren't doing anything wrong. Unfortunately the "Slot: Set *" key actions only work if you have at least one monitor in Menus mode. We are always looking to improve the UI so we will take this into consideration going forward.

Can you explain a bit more what your settings are.

It sounds like you want to have two presets:
- one with key mappings for preview (record) (e.g. myPreviewKeys)
- one with key mappings for playback (e.g. myPlaybackKeys)

You would then assign:
- Auto Preset On Enter Preview: myPreviewKeys
- Auto Preset On Enter Playback: myPlaybackKeys

Is this what you have done? Did you map the same keys in both presets? That is, if you change the Side Handle Key A to "Next Clip" for playback you want to make sure you re-map it to what you want in preview mode.

If you are still having problems please open a support ticket and send in a log file along with the preset files you created so we can take a look.

Thanks Trent ! You're exactly the man I wanted to hear !
I'll wait for the next release then, for now I have a workaround, I plug both hdmi and sdi on my monitors. It works, not ideal but it works.
If you could add that to the menu, we could have actual buttons for the main settings in addition to the menu system and touchscreen. I would like it very much.

About the auto preset, that's exactly what I have done.
Two presets that are basically the same, except 3 buttons used for playback control. (I used 5-6-7 on the side handle)

On Scarlet, It switches correctly from preview to playback, but then back from playback to preview, it stays in the playback preset. And when I look at the auto-preset menu after that, I can read 3 "None"s on the auto preset page. My auto presets have disappeared.
On Epic, I have at every boot-up an error message saying the preset couldn't be loaded.

I tried re installing, but it was the same.

I will send a log with the presets of my Scarlet, my Epic is away from home at the moment. Btw, the new overlay system is awesome.
