[FS: OPTICS] Lens Upgrade (For Still Image Lenses)

michael, any news on the tokina 11-16 vignetting @ 11mm on 4K with your 77mm ring?
thanks and bump for you!
According to David Battistella: ...on the FF D700 the lenses will vignette at 17mm, but never on the epic...
Since I haven't got real-life experience with a Tokina and a Red as of now, I decided to do some calculating based on the info from David.
Here it goes:
A 17mm lens on a D700 FF results in about the following Field of View (16:9): H 93.11, V 61.36

I then calculated the field of view of a 11mm lens on the Epic 4K (16:9): H 86.62, V 55.85

According to this, it should not vignette, since the FOV of the 11mm lens on the Epic is narrower, unless David had a whole lot of vignetting with his 17mm lens on the D700.

Have a set of Nikons with Michael's step up rings and love them. Nice to have a constant lens diameter, but also helps my Zacuto donut stay on the lenses really well. Everytime I pick up a new lens I order another without question. Can't stand to not have these on my lenses.

Have you considered doing a 72-77mm ring without the need to do step-ups? Good majority of Canon primes are 72mm (24, 35, 50)

@Jason Osterday: Yes, I actually want to make 49mm, 62mm and 72mm but I don't think it will be very soon. The problem is that I need to make several hundred of each to get costs to a reasonable level. It's just a lot of risk...

This is only relevant to those red drivers who want to use them for 2K. I can affirm that the rings and caps work fine with CP Ultra T* lenses for Super16mm. No more need to frig around with changing illfitting donuts in matteboxes. ----- Because you are altering the way things are done with traditional stills lenses by fitting the rings and caps, you need to re-educate yourself and your crew, ( with forceful and unjust vigor if need be in the case of intractable recalcitrance ). There may develop, a habit of fitting the cap and then dismounting the lens off the camera by gripping the cap alone. ----- It is not a matter of if but when the lens will drop out of a hastily pressed-on cap and land tail-first on the concrete.

I have a few Cordvision rings and caps all are excelent quality and work as well as other high end rings on the market. There is one positive point in that the cordvision ring threads have been more consistent in size so they fit the lens perfectly or at least the ones I have are good. Others have not been so consistent. So Im a happy customer.

Hi. Do you have a solution for the Leica 19 vII that lacks threated outer ring?

Alvise, contact Duclos in USA or TLS in UK, they both have a special step up ring for the 19mm Leica to go to 77mm with 80mm OD for clamp on (if you are brave enough! he he).

I don't know if their rings attaches with screws or with clamping or with glue or both...but could be your solution to use threaded filters and those great arriflex 80mm caps! ;)

Have a nice sunday all of you guys!!!

@Alvise Sorry, I saw your question just now. Unfortunately I don't. Duclos is probably your best shot, they do very nice work.

Thanks to everybody for the positive feedback.

Hey,
I have the Cordvision lens upgrades, haven't really used them yet, but they seem to be awesome quality.

Now I want to buy some lens gears for my two slr prime lenses. Could you recommend me some good and affordable quality stuff like the Cordvision products? Redrock and stuff like them I don't really like. I need something more compact and solid stuff. Lanparte lens gears are an option but I'm concerned that the zip part of the ring would bother the 320 degrees focus throuw of my Zeiss lens.

Thanks

@Gabor
I might soon be offering a lens gear solution. I had an idea for a gear that won't have most of the disadvantages that user installable gears usually have. I'm not 100 percent sure yet if it will work, but I'm getting prototypes done within the next couple weeks.

Michael, I'd love to see your solution to the lens gear ring. I like the Duclos rings, but don't want to ship internationally to get them mounted to my lens, and while excellent quality are a bit pricey for me. Let us know how your prototypes go!

First prototypes look promising. Looking for ways to mass produce them without having to make injection molds (way to expensive for me). Tried water jet cutting, but it's less than ideal for cutting the small gear teeth.
