Hey guys, what are the most durable, cost effective 77mm step-up rings you guys are using? Would be used with 80mm caps. For still's lenses.

Some of the flimsy ones form Adorama don't cut it.

Thanks.

i use Heliopan to go to 77screw/80mm outside . they have all dimensions needed for the Leica-R optics, then 77/80 from Shoot35 to make it longer. Mattebox of Shoot35.

How do these compare to Duclos step up rings? I appreciate that's it's half the price...

... I'm primarily concerned with the likeliness of stuck filters due to thermal expansion
(don't get me going on my many ole attempts w/ plumbers wrenches to get filters off a lenses)

Also, what metal composition/alloy are these rings made out of?

Thank You

I can't speak for the other manufacturers but I can drop a few features of our step-up rings here.
All of our front rings are CNC machined from billet aluminum, no cheap brass here. Brass fluctuates a lot with changing temperature and can easily lead to stuck filter rings. Our step-up rings are anodized using the same process as the lenses we make and are completely backed by our "Super-Duper-110%-Customer-Satisfaction-Guarantee-Awesomness" (which is advertising speak for, we'll replace it if anything ever goes wrong with it).

I have used the Heliopan as well for years, but if I was to buy a set of 80mm Step Up adapter rings I would this time buy Duclos, the material does make a difference, and yes they are almost 50% more expensive but they will give you a worry free use on location, no matter the locution, the last thing you want to find yourself doing is trying to force unscrew filters or Step Up adapter rings form your lens or filters.
