I bought two second hand redvolts, when fully charge one show 81% and the other 79%, what do you guys think? should I return it? I paid $150 per battery. they guy who sold them said he only used them less than a handfull of times.

I'd be curious to hear a response too. I have this problem with almost all of my batteries, although the actual life time on them seems to be fine still...

I think we should all file a report with red as this is a serious issue. I have had mine just past a year and none grab more than 92 percent anymore. I'm starting to get very sub par usage times out of them as well. If the batteries were cheap who cares but the price per actual usage time is very high and I don't feel acceptable that in a years time I'm loosing 10- 15 percent of their effective usage time. And with 8 batts being like this it doesn't seem to be a one off thing

I wondered the same thing. I bought 5 of them. A combination of brand new, used but close to new and a couple of really used ones. The really used ones I received completely depleted. After a full charge, they showed 100% or close. How come the other ones didn't?
i then proceeded to run all of them until the camera shuts off by itself, and gave them a full charge, and voila! All of them show at or near 100%. So just run them down all the way...

I always burn them to shut off and do full charge... Still no luck

We've got two out of ten showing 100, the lowest only 89%. Actual running time is pretty close, though.

When the charger light turns green - it doesn't mean the battery is fully charged… The charger 'fast charges' to 80% - ish (don't remember the exact amount), then 'trickle charges' the rest of the way. This last trickle charge can take a loooong time. Maybe you guys are just pulling the batteries too soon?

All of mine make it to 98 - 99% occasionally 100% (but not that often), If they stay on charge overnight before a shoot. My bigger problem is the dreaded flashing red light when I put them on to charge… EVEN after they cool down, EVEN after some of them have sat on the bench for hours / days, No matter whether they are completely drained before charging or not.

The failed condition indicator is supposed to be alternate flashing red and green lights. Blinking red is not listed as a charger indicator signal, but I don't think it's a fail signal. The light is supposed to blink yellow when the battery is charging. Mine no longer blinks yellow; it blinks red when it's charging. If I leave the battery on the charger with the light blinking red it eventually turns to solid green.

The "DSMC Power Operation Guide" is at https://www.red.com/downloads see page 7.

Yep I mistyped - I meant red / green flashing.

Normally for me a REDVOLT shows up with 98-100%, mostly 100% if they're not the ones that the cam used to get the power for the bootup-process. But i had one REDVOLT which showed up only 82%, it was one of a new 4pack. It needed a few cycles and then everything was gone.

I do still have the impression that something has been changed with the battery readout/calculation-stuff in buiild4-betas. Another thing that i'm not sure about is, there might be differences in battery-handling/readout between the DSMC-sidehandle and DSMC-battery-modules, because:

1.) my camera does only properly shut down when a battery in the sidehandle run's low - having no battery in the sh and a battery running low in a rear module > the cam just looses power
2.) that 82%-redvolt had its first runs in the dual module, nothing changed... later i continued my tests with the sh and voila first test > 99%

The second could be a coincidence, i can't confirm that, because this battery now shows up with 98-100% in every slot i put it in. ;)

Data point: 2 REDvolts, each about a year old; both left in my quad charger for about 24 hours, placed into my side handle and fired up my Scarlet. One read 92%, the other 93%.

After about 9 months all of mine fully charged say between 78% - 85% :/ Haven't tried leaving them overnight on green though. Never knew the fast charge finished at green and then keeps charging.

One thing i forgot to mention: that REDVOLT with 82% didn't have a shorter runtime than others with 98-100%, i took the time of a few cycles. They all did run for around 34-36min, there was no huge difference.
