  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New 4k TABLET announced at CES. Yes, tablet.

This is not really a tablet, but more of a portable all-in-one. It's not the first portable all-in-one either (Vaio Tap 20, Asus Transformer AIO, Lenovo Horizon are some notable ones) but of course the 4K is what puts it over the top. I love it. Hopefully this panel finds its way into a monitor some time soon as well.

CES 2013 is all about 4K, or more accurately, Ultra HD. (and Windows 8)

PS: Once again, a reminder, this is not just a monitor, not a low performance tablet, but a full fledged portable computer. The target is much more than monitoring - real-time manipulation for visual artists. The possibilities are exciting.

That would be really sweet to hook up wirelessly, split-screen, to a couple of smart tripod heads with Epics mounted.

The future of display resolution for computing surfaces -- desktop displays, handheld devices, etc.. -- is all about high ppi. It's not about 1080p, 2K, 4K, etc.. It's about packing enough information into a given area so that we don't have to see pixels structures resembling screen doors. And this is not distant future, it's happening now. Hence the "retina" catch phrase on display tech. People are going to want to pick displays in sizes that make sense for their intended use. Regardless of whatever use that may be, they are going to be looking for that magic 220 to 330 ppi density. 3840x2160 at 20" barely qualifies.

Someone please give me a 20~22" 260+ ppi Wacom Cintiq and I'll be a happy man...

It's well past time that we saw higher resolution 20-27" LCD panels. Heck, even my smart phone has a 5" 1080p/440ppi screen on it...

Battery powered 20" 4k mobile redcine station. If you want to create looks in the field and playback small clips the i7 processor should be enough to do some basic stuff.

Maybe Avid will do a touch based timeline...? It's about 5 years late in my opinion... but I sill hope to use it one day...
