What is the best production management software out there? Which one are you using? which one would you suggest?

We are looking for a new project management application for our company. Something that will integrate seamlessly into the production world of films, shows, commercials, VFX spots, etc. Something that will be effortless and help to manage pre, pro and post production pipelines. Pre-Production crewing up, scheduling and well everything :-)

Any thoughts or suggestions would be awesome.

Cheers,

We use Scheduall...but just recently decided to explore other options and a web based team package seems to be the ticket. Something along the lines of Basecamp, but with better features like;
Discussions
Tasks
File management
messaging
ipad/iphone versions
timers
customizable

We are running all of these right now as demos, but none are perfect. If you have any other suggestions, id love to hear them.

I use movie magic I've never had any issues with it but it may not cover everything your looking for

I don't know of any single program that encompasses pre-prod./production, post-production, and workflow. Movie Magic Scheduling will work for production, and it's pretty standard. I know a lot of post houses and mixing houses that use Scheduall or Xytech, and the VFX houses I've worked with use either an in-house system or Shotgun. I know of companies that have designed Filemaker solutions from scratch, and this can work provided you have an in-house programmer who knows the program well; at least then, you can add and change features on the fly.

A lot will depend on the size of your company, the complexity of your projects, and your available budget; I've seen Scheduall work for post companies up to 250 employees, two dozen edit/color suites, and thousands of clients with no problem, but it might not be the best choice if you have 10 employees. On the other hand, it's scalable, so if your company doubles or triples in size in a year, Scheduall can grow with you.

There's another discussion about this subject on the Avid Forums at this link.

Give Synaesthesia a look: http://synaesthesia.surrealroad.com
It integrates with products like Shotgun and plays very nicely with RED footage.

Disclaimer: Synaesthesia is made by my company (but try it, there's a 30-day trial available)

I am reviving this thread to see if anyone has new insite. We are looking at "10,000 Feet" so far it is pretty damn good with two exceptions. It is not designed to do budgeting and it is online only. In the field and on set an offline solution is pretty important to us.

Thoughts?

Not sure if you have found the perfect solution yet. But you may want to look at Showmgr.com. Complete solution from budget through scheduling through post production and reporting. All cloud based, or hybrid cloud/in house solution. It has become extremely popular lately but has been around for over 10 years www.showmgr.com.

hi,

it's a complete pre-production solution, called Production Minds Platfrorm (PMP) a cloud-based creative collaboration and project management tool for movie and tv producers, directors and crew, to simplify the pre-production of scripted film/video content, designed specifically with film and tv professionals in mind.

there is a free trial version too, check out the website https://www.productionminds.com/features

Hey Susan,

Welcome to Reduser. The Production Minds Platform seems very well suited for many of our needs. I am concerned about the pricing though. Some adjustments would make it much more production friendly. The entirety of Adobe's pro software is available for considerably less then throttled back Indie version of this software.
