  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Redvolts showing 50% charged despite being fully charged - Beta firmware 4.0

Hey all,

Just wanted to see if anyone has had a similar issue to that described in the title thread.
Basically, I have two redvolts which I haven't used extensively in the year that I've owned my Scarlet. I've followed all reasonable and expected instructions in terms of usage and storage (i.e. stored in a cool place, charged only when fully depleted etc), and they've been performing as expected - meaning roughly 30-35 minutes of operation per battery.

However, following the latest firmware update (Build 4 beta) I've noticed that the batteries show 50%-55% charged despite being fully charged. The strange thing is that their performance is pretty consistent with before with them seeming to hang around the 5% full point for quite some time.

Has anyone else noticed something similar? Is there actual better power management in the new beta build (asides from the sleep mode/low battery mode) meaning that the camera actually uses power more effectively therefore making redvolts last longer?

Just want to see if the batteries have suddenly decided to have issues or if its a bug in the firmware.

Thank you in advance for your time :)

Just FYI, Lithium batteries are better of stored sitting on a charger. If the voltage drains bellow a certain point, the battery dies, and you can't charge them again. And you can charge them at any SOC, unlike older chemistries, doesn't make any difference.

But remember you only get a certain number of charge cycles. I am not sure the number but think its in the 1000 to 2000 area.

Thank you for your replies, but it's less of a battery performance issue and more of a misrepresentation of charge. As I mentioned, the batteries are still performing as expected - i.e. 30-35mins - they just show they're at 50-55% charged on the camera readout. This suggests to me that maybe there's a slight bug in the firmware and I was just wondering if anyone else has witnessed something similar.

If you think it's the firmware, there is an easy way to test it... rent or get a new set of batteries and see what it reads at.
