  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Bad news guys. Re: fps in build 4

Ah, we have a white knight. Not someone interested in the user base's thought. /exchange

Nope just someone being rational, outlandish expectations and the adverse reactions when a made up expectation is not met can be very damaging to all parties. You don't buy a bottom of the line car and then complain that a 7 year old sports car that is selling used for less out preforms it.

This thread does need to disappear for the very reasons Brandon has brought up, wait a day or so before you take a dump on their efforts, which nearly all the user base has been begging for, pre record, ramping, proper time lapse, image flip, power management, BS improvements..... this is not the time to complain that we didn't magically get more frame rates because the red one has them so should we....?

Yeah but can they do that shit RAW?

No RAW yet, but it produces really good image as you can see from some of the vimeo videos.

BTW, don't expect to get faster frame rates at least in next few years since Dragon is 6K sensor and according to Jim the frame rates stays the same in EPIC and since Scarlet will use same sensor it means Scarlet frame rates will be the same as they are now. Only change obviously 5K video and 6K stills rather than 4K video and 5K still which it has now.

Do you make this stuff up? "Obviously" (??) 5K video, 6K stills for Scarlet? Says who?

As far as what an FS700 "will record next year." Why not compare what Epic or Scarlet "will record next year." When things actually get delivered, let's return to the subject. Some day GoPro will be 6K at 400 fps. You should just wait for that.

Like I said in another thread. Lately, some of the discussions here are just plain bizarre.

Your "low priced model" was $25,000 until they recently End of Lined it and sold off their remaining USED cameras at a significant discount.

You knew the frame rate/resolution specs when you bought your Scarlet.

RED comes out with a huge upgrade in functionality (on schedule) and immediately you start this thread in response. It's a total buzz kill for me. I can only imagine what it feels like for everyone at RED to see this.
True. I don't understand how anyone can think that you would later get more fps through firmware update no matter what camera or brand is in question. Obviously the camera must have specs that you want when you buy it. Why on earth would you buy camera that doesn't do what you want in the first place? Think before buying.

Josh you should think before posting.

Back to earth...I am looking forward to this Build.

Power upgrades is always welcome.

First thing I've noticed with this wonderful amazing tool ;)

So you think that Dragon Scarlet will have same specs as Dragon EPIC? Pretty much only thing seperating these two is frame rates. That will not change, you can count on it. Scarlet will just make one jump upwards in the resolution just like EPIC does. With EPIC it means 6K and with Scarlet 5K. Frame rates stay the same for EPIC and that means they will stay the same for Scarlet too.

It was just a comment on the upcoming RAW recording. The 1080p 300fps is plenty for most needs. People shoot 1K and 2K slow motion here and integrate it with other Scarlet/EPIC footage all the time.

Like I said, you are making this stuff up. What you THINK will happen and what will actually happen seem to be pretty unrelated.

Epic and Scarlet Dragons could be the same if the only reasonable upgrade path for Scarlet turns out to be all the way to Epic. RED never promised 2 Dragon versions, just that there would be two upgrade paths. It's anyone's guess at this point. Why misrepresent it as fact?

Beyond that, no one ever said there would be a frame rate jump for either camera. In fact, if I recall correctly, Epic Dragon may end up topping out slightly lower at 6k. But no matter what, when you make statements about what WILL happen when it is only your conjecture, we get all sorts of blown up expectations like what happened with this latest Build. I just hate FUD that leads to wild expectations and genuine misunderstanding.

All this speculation is for two different cameras. If Scarlet becomes Dragon EPIC then they will obviously have same specs. But that update will cost at least 15k$ for Scarlet users so it's basically the same if they had just bought an EPIC in the first place.

You are littering "That will not change, you can count on it" kind of comments everywhere. The first rule of RED club, "Everything Changes"

You can count on it that they will not have 15k$ Dragon Scarlet that does the same frame rates as 25K$ Dragon EPIC.

Yes. Correct. It may work this way or it may not. We don't know much of anything yet.

Haha - and there indeed may not be a $15K Scarlet at all. And we don't know frame rates. Relax and wait for real information rather than spreading confusion.

Bingo! No reason to bitch about features that were never promised. I understand if you are annoyed that 24fps 4k HDR-X was never implemented as initially promised, but anything beyond that is gravy.

I decided to sell my Scarlet and move to a Red One MX because it provided me with features that Scarlet lacked...however it is twice as big, takes forever to boot up, lacks the awesome DSMC modules, etc.

You win some you lose some with either Scarlet or a Red One....Epic is where EVERYTHING is at ;-)

How can one be disappointed when something that was never offered/promoted by RED is not included in an upgrade? Get real.

Basically I think the only question, 'is the Scarlet capable of doing [blank]?'

All this other bickering and BS is lame.

in fact, no news for Scarlet.
Frame averaging is almost useless. Only 3k (24fps @ 2 frame) 2k (30fps @ 2 frame) can be used for motion projetcs. (for stills is a good option).
The same for speed ramp.
