I am a freelance DP and producer. I got the BT Red to offer something more to clients.

The first week with the Red One MX. $2,600 1 day gig.

The second week with Red One MX. $5,000 gig.

I just got a call today for another $5,000 gig.

That will be three times my investment in three weeks.

These extra jobs are the direct result of having a Red Camera.

Prior to this I was using an HVX200 with a Letus35 ultimate adapter, Canon DSLR's and a few other cams.

I really love the image produced and the color grading options are incredible.

I would not sell my Red for $10K. Let alone what I paid for it. People will still pay for quality work and a quality camera. I have not run into one person that has heard of the Red price drop. They all still think it is a $50K camera setup. The only people who know about the drops are the few film people out there that tweak on equipment. Like myself and you reading this.

Everyone else just knows that they cost a fortune.

Plus they can't believe they can get a camera op and Red camera for so cheap.

So don't think your camera is worthless just because of some once in a lifetime deal from Red.

For me, my camera is rising in value the more I use it.

Congratulations Erick! You are so right. I just got mine (minus a lens mount - so it's not even operational yet) and I already have one small gig possibility as well as a potential $100,000 gig that will utilize this new tool.

Inspirational stuff Erick... good job man. Missed out on the BT Red's, but I'm still on the lookout for a good package here-- like you said, not too many people know you can pick it up for 10-15k (which is still a KILLER deal) -- Kinda hoping to do the same, just having the cam opens up doors to bigger gigs that pay decent rates, thereby justifying the investment-- getting your ROI and then some. It does all go back to the person behind the cam, yes, but you still do kinda need the cam in your hands to get your foot in the door....

CONGRATS!!!! NASDROVIA!!!

I thought I was doing good. My friend just got a $50K gig with his BT Red. Puts me to shame. But I am still happy with current lineup.

Lucky you didn't get an Epic... those things are renting for peanuts. '-)

We are not renting. We just shoot commercials and films. I am afraid to rent. Some people have no respect for equipment. I think rented cameras are the true Battle tested cameras.

Heh, heh, understood. I was just being facetious about the hullabaloo from the recent price decrease. But I see how your situation is different from theirs so I was out of line.

Wow, a positive outcome. And people were thinking that they had to mortgage their homes for an Alexa to get hired. Who knew otherwise?

But seriously, my final word:

Having a gig lined up to pay for gear is the best way to go. My first gig with my scarlet allowed me to pay it off immediately. Only buy stuff you can afford and you should be ok.

Hook a brother up with some contacts ;)
