Only 1 in 25 will have the opportunity to see The Hobbit at 48fps. Too bad. It is a new viewing experience.

24 of 25 of you will see it at 24fps. (yawn) Don't get me wrong... it looks incredible at 24fps. But you are missing the point.

I have my tickets to see it at the AMC Rosedale 16 in Minnesota in the evening on the 15th. HFR 3D. If by any chance there is someone who sees this message and is going to the same show, let me know!

Tickets booked, 3D and 48 fps, very much looking forward to it

I'm not gonna bother with 3D at 24. Too many bad memories, to be honest. It's 2D or 3D HFR, oh yeah.

Jim, if 48 is how the film was intended to be viewed then why only 1 of 25 of will be able to do so? Just a technical standpoint and cinemas are not all capable or cause people are not ready for it? I am very excited to see it in both formats and perhaps the 1st time in the way the director intended us to see it, but i imagine either format should have nothing to do with how good or enjoyable the story is. I feel like we are missing the point if 3Dvs2D | 24vs48 is the topic when you leave the cinema. I am very much looking forward to it...(anyone recommend a good cinema in Barcelona) :)

Even out here in Latvia they are showing the HFR version. I think all, but one theater showing it has it. Maybe all of them.

How I understand it is that in conventional film projection, each film frame had light projected through it twice. At 24 frames each second. But effectively, 48 frames are seen. Now with the advent of technology wouldn't we want to each frame project to be unique, rather than doubled over? It will be interesting to see how films shot and project at 48fps will differ.

Quite glad I live in California, that theater list showing films in 48fps is quite robust!

Jim,

I'm in, I'll be going out of my way to watch this as intended, then I'll watch it a couple more times with family. Love these films, so proud it's shot with Epics.

I will never in my life (bold words I know) watch a movie in 48 frames per second.

Even if I miss "the whole point".
I'm not going for this "this is the way to the future, RED is ahead, believe it or die, everyone else get's left behind" brainwash kaboodle that is going on about this topic.

It looks like bts video. Period.

I can see it happen on the monitor when I shot with 50p/s for a little slomo.
That's usually when the director yells: "Hey, why does it look like video now?"

I'm looking forward to enjoy it in glorious 24p with no 3D hfr "Yeahaa" distraction at all.

That's perfectly ok with me.

Right now we show a film in our local cinema that was shot on S16 mm.
The story takes you in within seconds.
Sitting there in the dark I asked myself: "Would that be any better in 3D or 4K or even at 48fps."
The answer is no.
The magic would disappear instantly.

Call me oldfashioned if you like. That's perfectly OK with me.

That's perfectly fine, good to have the faithful.

I wouldn't call it brainwashing... far from it. An open mind is clear and accurate. I'll let the technology in and see how I feel about HFR after the experience.

HFR certainly has it's place, sporting events come to mind. Race cars, hyper real landscape photography / videography, water.

With all do respect Peter,

to make an informed and valid opinion about something you must first know about it.

There is a very large difference within watching your 50fps shot footage on a video monitor, which I am most certain such footage would have also been ungraded, and not in 3D.

Give yourself the benefit of the doubt and go see it in HFR 3D, then and only then you can really make such decision as an informed choice, not before.

Some of us can't see 3D in the first place, while some just can't process the information do to actual genetic problems with how their Visual Cortex lucks the perceived electrical impulse that brings the information to be sent by the Brain.

Apart form this vast minority, few others naturally do suffer form motion sickness, and some of the action scenes or fast pans and tilts, more on the pans, tend to get motion sickness, and or even headaches, this happens tO them even while driving as a passenger on a moving veichle that makes them experience anything over normal forward motion.

And of course since we have been used to see a certain Blur, Artifacts, and not so sharp images on Film and that particular trail of blurred out images that come form 24fps viewing, it will most certainly surprise us, (well, not me, not anymore) how this images now look sharper, cleaner, and with much, much less blur on fast action and the motion within fast Pans, some like it immediately, others don't, while others get used to it very fast and come to truly love it, and can't stand anything else, this last category, is were I have already fallen in.

In fact, I get sick, just a little, when viewing 24fps motion blur on Pans, so we are certainly not all alike, thank God for that, but just saying, don't make opinions on something before you actually have experienced, and to me surely sounds like you didn't yet.

I don't know if I'll see it in 48fps. I don't care enough about stereoscopic - oops, sorry, 3D is the official term, isn't it? - movies so I'll just see it in 2D. What I do know is that I'll reserve judgement about whether or not it looks like video. Maybe it will at 48fps in 2D, but not at 48fps in stereoscope. I mean, 3D.

48fps? I'll give it a fair shake.

3D? I already did, 90% of the time it's a gimmick.

90% of the time, I just want to watch a damn *movie*.

In sweden the most common cinema (sf bio) have updated all to 48fps. But only in 2k. I think they have like two 4k cinemas. So atleast here the percent watching it in 48fps will be the opposit.
