Lighting / Lenses / Filters for Fashion and Beauty

Hi everyone.

I'm excited to do another one, and I really like the look and colors of this one... https://vimeo.com/45744488

I of course want to improve and keep doing better, so I want to improve the look and feel of my next one.

I'm looking for any input, and specifically on the following...

Lighting - I feel Kinos are excellent due to their softness.

Lenses - I shot the Alex video on Master Primes. So sharp and beautiful. Would you recommend others, what do you like? I've got a PL Mount Scarlet so I wanna at least keep them PL.

Filters - Didn't use any first time around. Looking back now I feel like a 1/8 Black ProMist would've softened things up just enough. What would you recommend filter wise?

Oh and any makeup tips would also be helpful. Just did some basic makeup on her last time, I see now that it should've been a bit softer and more even throughout.

Any input is appreciated! Always eager to learn.

Master Primes + Pro mist would be great for this. What stop were you shooting at? MP's in my opinion are fantastic at fast apertures, and probably the best lenses you can get for fast apertures. I would also recommend doing more shots with longer lenses and perhaps backing away from the model if its possible in your location. You should also check out Cooke s5's, those would be great for you as well. In addition, I think the second video they used a bit longer lenses as well as some dolly/slider camera motion. As far as makeup tips go.. no idea haha. But RED's resolution is very unforgiving to any sort of blemishes. Even skin pores are seen, so having a good foundation is key.

We were pretty open on the MPs, probably a stop too much. When I went to rent out the lenses, the longest they had was a 50, so that's the longest I had. Optimally I would've went with a 50 and 85. Maybe even one wider. I've never tried the s5's, may have to go try them out sometime. Yeah I definitely saw a slider in there and pretty long lenses. Gonna work on the makeup a bit more for next time!

Anyone have any tips on makeup? I realize it's one of my biggest weak points in the first shoot.

ask your makeup artist if they have experience doing airbrush pigments. Many powder bases will look like overkill on HD to 4k footage.
or, just get a product called anti shine .. its a clear liquid and easy to apply.. it will not fix blemished, though. For that, an experienced artist with an airbrush and water base pigments will help a lot..
I don't know what to suggest for lip pigments.. maybe thats where an IR filter will help you to cut heat near red pollution

Cool, will definitely inquire about the airbrush pigments.

Never though about lip pigments. How does it work if she has lipstick on? Are there specific lipsticks to use for film?
