Now that A whole Lot of Independent Film Buffs Own a RED ONE,
Where are some Cheaper Alternative Support systems for the Camera, Like Aftermarket Top and bottom Mounts, and Rods, and etc.etc.

or at least List some..

I Know of Several Machine shops and CNC millshops here in Houston that Will be willing to Mill out some Nice Replicas of that stuff that RED no longer Carries.. Could be a Huge Aftermarket for the ONE..

For now I would like to Know what is out there that does not Cost Hundreds of Dollars for someting so Simple as PLATE. Should Cost like 30 dollars....know what I mean...

Let me know

Red peeps!!

I'm in the same situation, looking for alternative gear.
I like the look of the Longvalley Equip Top Handle. It looks versatile.

Any reviews from any Red veterans for us FNGs?

Also their 15mm rod adapter looks good for light weight set-up.

I'm looking for a decent shoulder mount thats well balanced, but not ludicrously expensive!

The Long Valley stuff is great. I used to have their Top Handle (just sold it a couple weeks ago) and it is extremely light weight but strong. I still use their 15mm front mount...works perfectly and it is always there when you need it but not in the way when you don't. Personally I like the Allstar Cine shoulder mounts (they have several different configs), but they may be more $$ than you have in mind:

Thanks Tom. I like the look of the Arri H mount.

I'm looking for something that can slide off the tripod, and mount with same plate to a shoulder mount.

I think I'll get the Longvalley handle. Looks versatile, and a lot cheaper than the Top Mounts/rail combo.

Since the Allstar Arri-H mount uses a standard Arri dovetail, if you mount a dovetail on your tripod, and get an Arri-style bridgeplate for your R1 (available from Allstar, WC, RED and many others), you can easily go from sticks to handheld in a matter of seconds.

Thinking of support, what about the Proaim 100mm tripod legs? Between £100-£150 (200us) you can get a tripod that weighs 2.8kg, has a capacity of 100lbs. Means you can get a half decent bowl head 2nd hand, and you're good to go!
At £150, its worth giving it a go, instead of spending £1000 on legs alone.

these ones?

these ones?

I'm a big fan of Proaim, but never consider its' products be great for a long run. They are really cheap, but their quality and engeneering is also kind of a "cheap". As for support I preferred

or you may something similar.
Quite handy sticks btw

Thats an interesting find! It might just do the trick for me, but its border line.
I'm looking to invest in something that I can put a mini jib on, with the R1. Something like this:

http://www.b-hague.co.uk/hague_pro_jib_k14.htm

Crane + Weights = 30kg (60lbs)
Red One Set up approx 15kg (maxed out) (30lbs)
Red One, just battery, red drive approx 10kg

So I'm looking for something that can hold up 60kg

I like that one as it can fit my current 501 head, which I have used with Red (I know its not a great head, but its what I've got for now) and it did the job, but my Manfrotto 525 legs aren't up to muster.

But then maybe its time to upgrade to a 100mm bowl head now anyway.

99% of work is still going to be DSLR and Canon XF so I don't want a heavy set for carrying around everywhere.

This is one from Proaim India

or this

Does 45kg, so again they're borderline, but probably would work.
Any thoughts?

if its for a jib, get massive steel or aluminum legs, and about 70-100 pounds of sandbags to counter the leverage of the camera on the end of the arm.
most dslr and camcorder appropriate jib and tripod setups are woefully inadequate for a built r1 or full size camera... and you wouldn't want to drop your primary investment on the ground, would you?
The sticks you use for a jib will usually not be the light weight ones you use for fast tripod based setups...

What About Aftermarket SSD cards. I see a few Kingston 3GBs 256gig for 450 dollars. will these work on the REDs

No, aftermarket SSDs will not work with RED...only RED-branded SSDs.

I believe the RED jib should never be lightweight, and thus it seems to be impossible to use DSLR jib.

My experience is:
I have this:
(1) http://www.thecinecity.com/eshop/-Proaim-Preciso-telescopic-Jib-Camera-crane.html
And this:
(2) http://www.thecinecity.com/eshop/16...tand-for-Film-Movie-video-making-cameras.html

1 - is used with
http://www.ebay.com/itm/CT7402-Vide...30321489387?pt=US_Tripods&hash=item1e57c41deb
and 5D Mark II. and I won't use it with RED, because its' stability is just for DSLR (Though the specs may promise that you may put 10 lbs of RED plus head).

2 - when asssembled in shorter version (2 sections) it will hold the RED more steadily, but you should be aware of putting this on soil or sand. Adjustments are not perfect, and it is often not possible to steadify this thing rock solid on uneven surface.

I'd go fleabay or look on here for something used before going Poaim. I'm a firm believer in buying the best you can afford, used. For not much more you should be able to pick up a used set of nice sticks used. I did - Lisand/O'Connor.

I bought the Longvalley stuff and it looks good. Haven't got my camera yet so I can't comment on how well it works but it looks very well made. I was interested in inexpensive and light and it looks like it will work out brilliantly.

Still mulling my shoulder mount options. Douglas at Longvalley suggested just getting an handle and a shoulderpad and calling it a day.

Guys, keep in mind the Red One is not anywhere close to the size and weight of dslrs. You are not going to be able to use cheap dslr cages and rigs or 75mm tripods. I guess I shouldn't say it's impossible but I don't think it will work very well. You are just wasting your money with the proaim (etc) stuff that work fine for dslrs. Even 100mm tripods and heads are a bit on the light side for the R1. I would suggest a 150mm setup as far as tripods go. I don't mean to be a downer, just trying to give you a heads up.
