Wildlife lens for RED ONE

Need some advice about wildlife lens for red one.

Does anybody uses sigma 50-500mm, nikon 80.400mm, nikon 500mm???

Please tell me your experience with the lens above or other lens you use.

Not the 50-500, but I just bought the 150-500mm. I tested it out last week and thought it looked pretty sharp. Have yet to use it in the wild. I have been looking for good long lens for a while. Was thinking about a 500 or 600mm, but could not justify the cost of a 2.8 Canon.

I haven´t used any, but I heard that the 50-500mm is a bit sharper, but it might depend on each individual lens. Also thinking in a nikon 500mm f/4 ED, a manual lens, but they are hard to find.

Anyone has used this lens?

The Nikon 500mm f4 is a great lens for wildlife - I have one and love it. I can't remember the figures, but I think it is much lighter than a 600mm f4 and a fair bit lighter than a 600 f5.6. I use it with lightweight 15mm rods.

Also worth checking out are the manual Nikon 300 f2.8 and, if you can find a good one, the 50-300 f4.5.

Would the Nikon 50.300 f/4.5 work well with teleconverters, or it will lose a lot of quality?

I've not tried it - generally I try to avoid using teleconverters with zoom lenses although I am happy putting them on primes. My 50-300 is an Optex conversion to PL mount - originally intended for shooting on S16 for a Serengeti project. It sat in its box for years but has had a new lease of life on our Epic M. I'd use it more often, but I have a lot of Nikon glass and don't like switching mounts in the field if its windy or dusty - which it is most of the time

It's not quite as sharp as the 2 Nikkor 300 2.8s I have but it is much more versatile for wildlife and doesn't need a lens support.

If you're willing to tolerate 2K, the Optex / Canon 14.5-480mm is THE classic wildlife lens. I just bought one and it's the dog's bollocks!

I think I saw another one for sale here a while ago...

Thanks Mike, first will need to get tsose 28K to buy an EPIC, and then if could get my hands in more 28K would buy one optex/Canon 14.5-480mm, for shure its a greeat lens, but out of my budget (for now)

Actually UKP 2600... it was on the bblist website I discussed elsewhere. A one-owner lens; had been used for documentary footage by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds in the UK... definitely one of my better deals. Came in a Pelican with bits & pieces, including an Optex 2x PL doubler.... I'll get back to you on weight.

I think I'll start a new thread: what camera gets me the nearest I can to 4K in a S16 image circle? This lens seems good enough to be worth a try

I just picked up an S16 Angenieux 7-81mm t/2.4.... I really like the idea of shooting with S16 lenses, especially with the possibility of dragon being slightly more dense in the resolution department. Additionally, shooting 3:1 compression at 2k and not burning through cards on those projects that don't require 4k, is pretty nice.

Lighter lenses with far more zoom range at faster f/stops... It's kind of the perfect mix.

I have an old Angie 20x - the 12-240. Very different look to the Canon. The Canon is the one that makes me want 4K in a S16 image circle.
