So i was following this vid: https://vimeo.com/1356142#

But my I/Data cable's attached to the PL mount. I tried tugging it but its firmly attached. Any suggestions?

Thanks Erick for the reply! I tried tugging it off but it's firmly embedded and i don't want to force it.

Also, as you can see... there are also screws attached to hold it in place?

Do I need to unscrew them first?

No do not unscrew it... If you look close you can see that the wires are attatched to a clip. You may be pulling on the wrong part. The clip slides inside the screwed in part. Look online about a motherbaord and computer fan. You may be able to see from that what you need to do. It is very easy and takes little effort to remove. It is just a plastic clip plugged directly into that part with the screws.

Thanks Erick! That motherboard tip worked haha

For those who're stuck, here's the part that comes out:

On one side of the plug is a built-in little plastic clip that clips the top part of the plug onto the base. Look for that clip and gently pull it out a tiny bit with a fingernail...while holding the clip out away from the plug, pull the plug out of the socket.

EDIT: Never mind...you got it.

Thanks Tom!

That was my problem, actually. The lack of long enough fingernails to lift them out lol

I also ran into this issue. Just curious - does anyone know what the I/data cable is for?

There are a few PL mount lenses with the necessary contacts and electronics to allow the camera to read the lens zoom, focus distance and iris settings and record that metadata to recorded footage. This is very useful information for visual effects post production and/or reshoots.

Only some Arri, some Cooke and some Red lenses I think have this capability at present.

You can also use a tiny flat head precision screwdriver. As with any camera electronics - do not work on them unless you're sure you know what you are doing, and it's good practice to avoid doing so when the camera is powered to avoid damaging short circuits.

Don't want to scare anyone but be really careful putting the new mount in, so that the idata cable doesn't get caught or snagged at all. You don't want to get a short in this cable.

Eric (above) told me that if you short that cable it can be really, really bad, in a way you don't want to actually know about, so just be careful it is safe!
