Has anyone got a definitive answer yet? Or if it's will even be possible?

Searching the Forum suggests that image stabilization isn't usable at this time.

Sitting on the fence between the Canon 24-70mm without stabilization and the Tamron 24-70mm with it. This would make the decision much easier.

Got plenty on primes, but am looking at a more "run and Gun" setup.

Right now have the Tokina 11-16 and Canon 70-200mm II with IS.

Just need that last lens to fill the gap.

i have been looking at the tamron as well....do we know for sure that it does NOT work? it might!
on a side note...just tried some beautiful older zoom lenses....it is amazing how well IS works compared to non IS lenses....realistic ability to shoot handheld vs....completely unuseable shakiness (for the most part....)
i have the canon 17-55 2.8, yes there is a very tiny cutoff in the corners on the wide end at 5K....but it is a great lens, 2.8, sharp and IS....check it out....

tamron 24-70

tamron 24-70

I just rented that lens to try it out. In my opinion the tiny afterthought of a focus ring on that Tamron makes it unusable. It's really a huge shame that Canon didn't do their superb 24-70 II with IS.

Unless the Tamron is different from other lenses, isn't the IS/OS function totally inside the lens, and has nothing to do with the camera body?

Thanks for the heads up on the 17-55mm.....I thought it would be unusable with the APC size lens. I have the Scarlet, so for now 5k isn't a concern.

I don't even care if Red doesn't fully characterize, I just want the Stabilizer turned on!
Maybe and build 4 coming up?

does anyone actually know for sure that IS does NOT work? i have asked red about it and they said it might...so we won't know until someone tries it...

that is the one thing that sucks about the 17-55...the focus ring....terrible...not really a big fan of the zoom ring either but the focus ring...tiny, not in a good spot and that strange "resistant less" turning....but it is a great lens....

I tried the tamron for VC right after released

the stabillization did not work on my epic

(on my 5d mk2 it worked for sure)

so I sold it and will try canon 24-70mk2

I bought the lens, tested on Scarlet and it does not stabilize. I am trying to decide whether I'll keep the lens in hopes of a future update that enables stabilize.
If Red determines it's impossible I'd like to know right now.

I did some tests on a Canon T2i with the lens to determine distortion and resolution today, it looks pretty good even at 2.8.

Has the Red people mentioned any possibility of that Tamron lens being supported in future at all?

Still no news? This lens would be an amazing affordable option with IS..

No news. I returned it and got the 24-105 , fantastic lens.

The new 'focus by wire' on Canon STM lens's are worrisome as well. I had also asked about that.
Maybe the elves at Red are too busy right now to answer.

Shot a ton of handheld on this lens today - stuff would look so much better with IS enabled, and save me quite a few hours of warp-stabilizing. Anyone tried with the beta 4.0 firmware? I was gonna wait for the official release, but am dying to find out... Still a great lens, but the VC mode on a 5D always gets me fantasizing how good it would look off a RED.

I'm sorry to bump such an old thread, but I was wondering if there was any new info about the IS (VC)?

I have a chance to pick up the lens for a good price but I'm not able to try it out on the camera before hand.
