I emailed RMA, waiting to hear back. I had a bad experience with FedEx (read about it here.. http://www.reddit.com/r/FedUpwithFedEx/comments/12u38v/fedup_with_fedex/) and I wanted to know if anybody had ever experienced this sort of damage? RMA said upon a first look that it was unfixable, but I sent them much more detailed photos now, most things seem intact and it seems as if it could be easily soldered back together.

It looks fixable. It looks like the soldering joints came loose which is odd. I think that's bad quality control, soldering joints shouldn't come loose like that. The electronics more than likely should still work. Some chips are susceptible to damage by heat from soldering irons. If you go to your local TV repair ship you might want to make sure he's using a temperature controlled soldering iron otherwise it's possible he could damage the components.

Interesting, I would love to hear what RED has to say about the above statement. I received the card on Weds. via FedEx and shipped it out Thursday, the damage was discovered 5 hours after the package was received on Saturday, I'm thinking it might have been poor solder & temperature change to blame... I could be completely wrong though....

If you've just received it, it's still under warranty, then send it back to Red for replacement. But contact your Bombsquad rep first. It looks like poor solder joints. If they were good, they probably wouldn't have broken off so cleanly.

My Red Rocket was also damaged in transit (which is an assumption as I don't expect anything broken would ever leave the RED bunker). Didn't notice it until a year and a half later when I pulled the card from my system and was cleaning it. I noticed a capacitor had come off when I was comparing my card with a photo on the red.com website. First thing I did was look in the box the Rocket came in and inside the anti static bag! RED didn't want to repair it because it was out of warranty (which I totally understand). The odd thing is that the card worked fine. But I soldered the capacitor back onto the card and it's still working just fine :-)

Still waiting to hear back from RED, but does anybody else have an ideas? It's back in my possession in New York and I'd love to bring it somewhere locally to have it looked at for a possible repair if RED is unable (and if insurance denies my claim) though I do really think that it's poor assembly that caused this issue. Hopefully RED will resolve the issue as it was brand new and the break was so clean that it seems like it couldn't have been properly soldered...

Let me know, Samuel. I might want to buy the card from you cheap if you want and take the risk that I'll be able to fix it. If interested, please PM me.

Was the shipment insured?

Maybe it was delivered by this guy..
