Hi All,

Does anyone know yet if there's been an update or an ETA for REDRocket over Thunderbolt compatibility to be restored to OSX 10.8.2? I have some new Macs which came pre-installed with 10.8.2 and need to use the Rocket via Thunderbolt. If anyone can post an update or an ETA it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much!

Best,

- Jordan

Finger-pointing is not going to help anybody. We all know Apple is going to perpetually "update" their OS, and we all know RED needs to continue to support (and sell) the REDRocket for Apple customers, so it just needs to get figured out, and it can't happen soon enough (since all new Apple hardware ships with 10.8.2, and "rolling back" is not an easy option).

Something similar happened with an OS update last year and the Sonnet Qio drivers. The combo actually prevented computers from booting! But Sonnet had an explanation of the problem online within a day and a solution within a few weeks. I know RED is no slouch, but I hope we get some relief and soon. For my client with their brand new Apple hardware, if they can't use the REDRocket by mid-week next week, they're simply going to go with a different camera.

Actually, downgrading is quite easy - just dl a clean copy, install and work again... No need for a clean install, you can keep all your data, takes like 15min/machine...

I have tested it on a Mac mini and the 27" imac without experiencing the issue, I do not have the 13" Retina. My 15" Retina MBP is the only machine that I have experienced the issue with.

If you are experiencing it on a machine other than the 15" MBP please send me your logs via the Save Report option, as well as a system profile.

Dear Matt,

I have just emailed you my System Profile and the last three REDCine-X Pro logs. Thanks very much for taking a look!

When are the drivers/firmware going to be fixed/updated? I have no issues with any other Thunderbolt device that I run on my Retina MBP. It's been a month and a half with it not working and being unable to update the OS and some apps, including FCPX with native Red support. ATTO fixed/updated their drivers a long time ago.

It appears the Mac Mini 6,2 has the same issue as the 15" Retina MBP. However the Mac Mini 5,2 does not have the issue.

Dear Matt,

Thanks very much for getting back to me (I also replied to your email privately, so thanks again).

I can't wait until a solution for this issue is released...

In the meantime, I'm looking into downgrading to 10.8.1 (so far, I've been unsuccessful at booting up the new Mac Mini with my rock-solid 10.6.8 backup drive - it just hangs indefinitely :-( ).

Anyway, I certainly hope to be able to use the REDRocket-over-Thunderbolt with the new generation of Apple hardware and software as soon as possible.

Best,

- Jordan

So it's clear there's a compatibility problem between the Red Rocket firmware/drivers and the latest Apple hardware releases. Atto also had the same issue, but already released updated drivers to fix the problem weeks ago. When can we expect to see a fix from Red? I'm already coming across issues working with projects being brought to me that are from the newest FCPX release, which I cannot run until this problem is fixed.

Again, I ask, is there any update? Any insight? Any ETA? I would love to hear something along the lines "we are working on the problem and we expect to have it resolved by 11/XX/12."

Thanks!

+1 I am waiting standby. Right now the rocket and sonnet enclosure are looking pretty nice as paper weights. I would like to use them again...

We are working on the problem.... as with all debugging, it's hard to give an ETA. We want it out just as much as you do.

oooops, that means i have to wait with my order of a magma 3t thunderbolt enclosure for my 15" retina mbp until the problems are fixed ?

Why? The hardware is fine.

does not make sense to buy it nowif the software causes troubles or did i misundertand something ?
i own a 15" retina mbp running 10.8.2.
my redrocket is working flawless in my hp8600xw, so i"ll stay in this configuration :-)

thanks rob :-)
