So Element Technica used to make a dovetail plate that mounted DIRECTLY to the Oconner 1030 HD head without using the quick release plate. They have discontinued it i've gathered. They have one now that mounts directly BUT is part of their new MICRON line. Im assuming this is a SMALLER dovetail and is only compatible with other MICRON products, therefore not working with Epic's Quick Release Platform with dovetail reciever. Can anyone confirm this and point me to any other solutions for direct mounting of a standard dovetail plate onto a 1030HD or 1030D? Thanks!

Unfortunately, I believe you are correct Jake. When I had contacted ET about bringing back the dovetail, I was led to believe that they were in fact bringing back the same dovetail. The new one is half of the equation, the other being the new Micron standard. So it'll mount onto the O'Connor just like the old one, but then you'll have to abandon the RED quick release to go with the Micron stuff. Not what I had hoped for. I continue to use the old version on my 1030DS, but with the RED quick release setup. It works perfectly. Maybe ET will listen up and bring back the original because it's what we want.

Hi Jake,

I spoke with you regarding the 1030 dovetail via e-mail. Let me know if you have any other questions. ;)

Mark,

We are bringing back the 1030 Dovetails. They are going on sale next week. The machine shop is etching them at the moment. The available lengths are 9" and 12". We also have the Micron dovetail, which works natively on the 1030 O'Connor Head with the Quick Release bracket on it. The 1030 dovetails are Arri based. The Micron dovetail only works with the Micron Bridge Plate.

If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me at may.peltonen@3alitytechnica.com

It's true, they're coming back : )

LOL, that didn't take long. Well how about that, Christmas comes early at 3alitytechnica. Thanks May, that's great news. For all the new RED camera owners, this is a bit of kit you definitely want. And as a practical matter, I would recommend the 9" versus the 12", it'll still fit inside your tripod case without having to remove it from the head.

We just got the micron system and absolutely love it.
