Everything is changing! Only marketing is eternal! New Epic price is it good or bad?

It is very cool turn from RED with New 50% of price on Epic.

So just the question:

The reduction of price on Epic from 38 to 19 for you is it good step from RED or bad step?

I think new customers answer is Good and present answer is Bad. So RED rejected present customers (because the are already customers anyway:) to get new customers.
And the key question when RED has known that the price will be reduced. From the begin? It was just marketing to get money from more solvent customers and then from less solvent to get maximum profit? Or RED just found out some way to reduce the price? Somebody knows something in which way RED can reduce the price from 38 to 19? Maybe it is move production to China or new production line as at Genry Ford? Why Mersedes or GM can't reduce the price on 50%? In which way?

Where did you get the 38 number from?

And you know that 19 is just a nonfunctional "empty" brain?

From initial price on the Epic, before the hike, it is 27,5 vs 22,5
For a brain with pl and ssd

I actually thought the'd cut the ssd/pl config to 17,5...

Best!

Don't play Gunleik!:) There was not price 27,5 for Epic. You could buy Epic brain for 34 and for 38 with SSD and Pl mount.
So now the price (with SSD module and pl mount) is 21200 and was 38000
Or do you want to say that 38 to 21 it is a normal reduction:)

But it wasn't 38 and it isn't really 19, and as i said, i expected the 17,5 goal, so I wasn't really that suprised.

Not sure if M brain was 38, but X wasn't

Ok it was 38000 and now 21200) It is quite different:)

What was 38? As far as I can recall, that must have been the M.

The price drop is pracically much smaller than I'd have guessed.
And a bit smaller than it looks.

But that's just me.

RED has now competition. The need to compete...

You forgot the important third option in your poll.
What people feeling themself when they pay double price and another people pay only half?:)
Or how is it when the company which you trusted and follow every day every step from development of Epic then test and now killed your business:?)
Or how many customer now will trust RED:?)
I think we all know the answers on these questions:) I am just interesting when RED has planned this reduction I hope not from the begining of the year:)

I voted "bad for me", but my real opinion is: "It's bad for me right now....but probably good for me and everyone in the long run". :)

Doesn't really effect me one way or another(i wasn't planning on getting another camera in the next few months, and not planning on selling my cameras, cheaper camera's don't effect how much work I get, and I probably will rent backup epics now for shoots ... so my overall rental rate won't change) ... but if it is good for RED, it is long term good for me.

What about a third option, neither good or bad, I don't give a shit?

If we would talk about color of brain it could be but nobody in the world can say I don't care what is the price or maybe only a few people from Forbes:)

I'm a little guy from France with empty pockets and I don't care.
Our camera keep rolling, clients are always happy with the imagery results, what the Red digital cinema compagny is choosing to do as strategic choices isn't of my business.
Cheers
B.

I haven't made my money back on my cameras, but that was never the point nor the business plan. So I guess I belong to the group that according to you is very small.

I've owned a couple of pro cameras by now, and there is only one camera that has depriciated less than the Epic/Scarlet, and that is the Red One.

Actually, Martin... Before posting what I did about how fucked I feel by RED these days, I was about to post something about how happy I am for RED to finding back to their roots.

The original userbase - amongst which I count myself - were a bunch of silly dreamers with not-so-much liquid assets who mostly dreamt about what we thought we could maybe achieve image-wise with a somewhat better offering than we had at the time.

To me "obscolence obsolete" was allways a marketing hype - even though I have been fortunate enough to learn that it wasn't only.

And despite PJ, Scott, Finscher and Soderbergh, crazy guys like myself who just made the bloody thing work stabilly and digged into the workflows and signalchains, probably have had at least as much effect on the pure volume of "shot on RED" features and TV shows over the years. Because we could make it "just work" and be as good if not better than any cam.

i have had major DP's go red over Alexa, NOT because I am some onesighted RedHead (Jim knows that, that has pissed him off a number of times...) but because it is the best choice. And now I am talking R1... At 4k a pop...

To me it is a lot Bout whAt you are buying into.
And for me... It is not the cult. Which at times has brought me atnodds with Red.
But it is the pure potential and stability offered, if you care to dig into it.

But REDs don't come for free. Neither in terms of $$$ or knowledge.
still, if you bother... They can be real cool...

And I really dig that red are back at adressing that userbase.
The one that are onto doing wild shit if they are just given the options.
The ones that don't give a fuck if everyone else thinks they are screwed for not being Ble to afford the other tools....
Because they know thir own tool better...

So...
To me...
Nope...
Not screwed by RED.
really not.

But I buy into image potential.
Not longterm asset investments...

Just curious as I haven't checked myself yet. Have rental companies dropped their Epic rates by 50% since the price drop. I"m talking about the major rental houses such as Rule/Boston Camera, Abel, Panavision, Keslow, etc.

Wouldn't make any sense to do as the real price drop is more like 15% -20% and that the images delivered is still kinda the same.

Fortunately most rental houses knows their maths better than a few verbal RedUsers around...

But I do not know.
If they didn't have customers for the cams allready... This is a good time to drop the rates.
