So When The Dragon Is Announced...

[McKay Olson]

...the Epic will be $25,000, correct? It still will be less than what the Epic originally was, though.

[Andrae Palmer]

I have a good feeling it will be $19000.

[Thomas Koch]

I would say it will be $25,000 for the dragon epic-x. Makes perfect sense. Plus that s a really good deal to the Original plus other cameras in the market. plus that extra $6k will go towards paying off the development of the dragon sensor.

[Andrae Palmer]

The reason why I said 19k... is I feel that competition next year will force them to keep the price at 19k.

So it would have been perfectly fine for Red to wait till competition forced their hand to reduce prices -profiteering till the last second-, but the world is coming to an end if Red reduce prices of their own volition.

Got it. I think.

Truth is, we don't know the prices of the new cameras next year. Every price out there is just speculation.

Well, if RED can reduce the price by 40% in 12 months, logically after another 12 months it should reduce by another 40% (you know, like all technology)... So, $11,400 + $6k for Dragon, is $17,400 for a Dragon equipped Epic in the fall of 2013 (that sounds about right)... That is, of course, assuming the competition doesn't release an equally equipped camera for a similar/lower price (like Andrae is suggesting.)
