Has anyone used BMD's SmartView HD monitor for color grading?

I believe the Smartview is an LCD monitor intended only for casual viewing on sets and in racks, not for final color. It basically tells you there's a picture there. It's fine for judging focus or performance, or verifying that a file has a specific shot the DIT needs to check.

To me, a reasonable color-correction monitor in the under-$3000 price range would be something like Panasonic Broadcast's 30-series or BT300-series 50" plasma displays. Those are currently used by more than a dozen major LA post facilities for final color on network and cable HD shows.

The Panasonics have some issues and are not perfect, but they can be calibrated and are widely accepted by major studio and commercial clients.
