  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

48GB SSD for Red One

hey,
is there an official word from red or someone that did use the 48gb ssds on the R1? because on the R1 page on red.com, when you go in the "tech specs" tab on the digital media line is only written " RED SSD™ (64GB, 128GB, 256GB Capacity)"but that may not have been updated since the 48gbs were out.

I have the 48GB on order. Hope it works. Regarding the 4.5K, that is 2.4 width right? What is that actually good for? Seems a little wide for my HD tv.

2.39:1 is indeed a little wide for your HDTV. It is actually good for this

4.5WS at 2.40 aspect ratio when cropped in post is good for creating widescreen cinema formats like Techniscope (2.33:1) and modern anamorphic (2.37:1) formats.

Sweet Ryan. Those were all made with R1MX? That brings me to another question, that is kinda pointless, but people will ask so I need to know.

What are the best or most well known films/tv shows/whatever that have been created with the RED ONE MX? If there's a link, I'd love to see that.

Tons of high-level TV and films have been made with R1 and R1MX -

Films
Book of Eli
District 9
Winter's Bone
Gamer
Jumper
Green Zone
Angels & Demons
Social Network
Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (about 80% R1MX, 20% Epic)
and many, many more.

TV
Leverage
Covert Affairs
Sanctuary
Southland
and many more...

Check out the Shot on RED section of RED.com...pretty much everything before 2010 was shot on R1

I'd looked at that page before, but never noticed that the American remake of House of Cards featuring Kevin Spacey is shot on Red. I suppose that I shouldn't be surprised given that David Fincher is involved though. The original BBC series with Ian Richardson is one of my all-time favourites. Such a brilliant performance. I have every confidence that Spacey, Fincher and company will do it justice.

About the 48GB SSD they will work with the R1 I emailed RED and here is their Reply:

Hello,
Thank you for contacting RED SUPPORT.
In order to use the 48GB REDMAGs with our RED ONE camera you will need to be running Beta firmware version 32.0.2. Found on our website here, https://www.red.com/downloads/502a96ce17ef023df2000213.

Just tried one of these on a RED ONE MX, but I keep getting a slow media warning. Only able to shoot at 2K / Redcode 28. Anyone else having issues?

Yeah, well no. I mean there's chinatown. That certainly wasn't shot on the Red.

I spoke with a RED tech as well and he said that the SSD MAG 48GIG WILL NOT work with the RED ONE MX YET!! He said that only the 64 and higher are ok so far. He also said there will be a 48 firmware update soon but didnt know exact date. This was asked yesterday!!!
