Here are a few differences between Ultraprimes and Master Primes.

Ultra Primes
- SIZE: Smaller than MP at about 2.2-2.6 lbs each. The wide lenses, 8mm through 14mm are a little heavier 4-6 lbs.
- LIGHT: T[1.9] One stop slower than Master Primes
- PRICE: Lower Price. New price is 13-14k, used around 10k per lens.
- RENTAL: $750-900 day

Across the set of UPs, they vary in different levels of flares, sharpness, slight optical characteristics.

Master Primes
- Size: Much larger than UPs, at 4.8-6.41 pounds across the set.
- LIGHT: At T[1.2] They are some of the fastest lenses in the world.
- PRICE: New they range from 21-27k each.
- very sharp, wides outperform UPs with Edge and Corner sharpness.
- These are the best of the best for a lot of people
- RENTAL: $1,300/day

Pretty much sums it up, apart from the fact that for 10k you will only find very old, and rented out UP's, severely scratched on the body and with almost always the need to change the Focusing gears on them, I looked intensively for few months when I then decided to buy new.

So you buy these and get the 28mm and 65mm. You need three more lenses for a set.

The 14mm UP if you can find it, the 16mm if you can't?

Then the 40mm, plus an 85?

The set of 5 could be:

14(16), 28mm, 40mm, 65mm, 85mm

Standard is:

• 16mm CF: 9"
• 24mm CF: 9"
• 32mm CF: 1' 4"
• 50mm CF: 2'
• 85mm CF: 3'

Any trouble renting a non standard set?


If you could get Ketch to sell em both at 11k each, and buy three more at 11k each. You have a full set of Ultra Primes for $55k. That's pretty ridiculous. Best I've seen used is $65k.
New would be 5x $13,500 plus tax, $6000. $67,500 + $6,000 = $73,500.
