Searching for a motherboard with more PCIe slots I found the X9DRG-QF from Supermicro. The company suggests a superserver 7047GR-TRF for this card.
The motherboard has four x 16 double width, two PCIe x 8 and one x 4 slots, reasonably quite enough for Resolve I think. I would like to know if anybody else knows about it or use it. On the other hand I would like, if possible, Jeff Kilgroe to comment about the best combination of graphic cards for this setup. Thanks.

I look at the Super X9DAi, from supermicro witch seams to be very popular. Jeff have at least one workstation with this motherboard.

I do have one workstation with the X9DAi motherboard. It's probably still the best all-around workstation dual E5 board out there. A couple of the newer ones from ASUS seem real nice too, but I find myself questioning some of their design decisions, mostly slot layout. I haven't personally used one of them yet. I have an HP Z820 and the workstation build around the X9DAi, that's it for this generation of Xeons for me. We'll see what the next generation brings...

Jeff could you share your card placement on the X9DAi? Do you use one gui and two gpu cards. Rocket yes no?

As I found out the difference of the two mentioned motherboards X9DRG-QF and X9DAi is on the number of the PCIe. The X9DAi has 3 PCIe x 16 and the X9DRG-QF has four double width x 16 which I think gives you the ability to extend and use more x 16 cards for Resolve. The question is which ones and in what order, as Joel asks. I believe that the only person to give a good advice is only Jeff with all the experience he has trying almost all configuration with cards and motherboard in Mac and PC. It's all yours Jeff....... Thanks again.

Check out asrock x79 extreme 11 motherboard, it has 8 pci e X16 ver 3.0 slots.

Hey guys - what about the config to Resolve but running on Hack Pro? Any tips?
