Id like to know, what people think is the best battery for a red camera, red one, red epic, red scarlet.
Which is worth the money?
or is red brick the battery for a red user?
it seems even battery are getting specialised, you get those that have the "R" on it and does that have other symbols :banghead:.

so for a red camera is their one specialise battery?

I use both GMP 160Wh and Red Bricks. I like the side P-Tap on the GMP, but in terms of the acctual battery, I prefer the RED Bricks.

One particular reason is that the maximum discharge current from RED Bricks is much higher and they can be drained more quickly than any other battery I know. I could even power two Epics and a monitor with just one Red Brick, which is not possible with GMP battery despite their higher rated capacity.

We started with RED bricks. They are good batteries. On the Epic, they give a timer for battery life instead of just voltage. Very useful. The REDVOLTS are great, for one reason. They are small but their life is short and both the RED bricks and REDvolts can NOT be reconditioned. (there is a 3rd party guy on the forms that can for $30 each. Who knows if he still is around, or will be around two years from now when you battery dies.) They also are more difficult to rent outside of major markets.

The industry stand is Anton Bauer. They have a good reputation and there are many options. We sold all our RED batteries, except 2 REDvolts which come in handy in the side handle when a super small setup is required.
We went with Dionic 90 HC. HCs because they can also be pulled to use on a steady cam, field monitor etc.. (higher amps). We attached them through a little back plate on the Epic, $700 dollars from ViewFactor. That was all that was needed. To mount the same way with REDbricks, would be $1500-2000. Pretty dumb.

There is one charger and only one charger to get with AB. A quad simultaneous charger (TM4). All four batteries get changed in under 3 hours. PERIOD.

@ Eyimofe

I was initially going to buy GMP after comparing the Energy density / Kg ratings of most batteries discussed on this forum.

But then I found PAG. Read about the PL96 batteries (Intelligent linkable batteries), their MicroCharger (an impossibly small charger that allows you to charge two linked up batteries at the same time), and lastly a thin 'PowerHub' plate that clips onto (or between) the batteries so you can power 'other stuff' (Eg LED lights ... or maybe one day LEP lights?).

Other thoughts: You can fly with any quantity of them (due their special testing). The firmware can be upgraded. Oh ... and Red are helping PAG to sort out getting the 'remaining power' correctly sent to the Epic.

I stick to RedBricks, ever since reading about GMP's causing problems which were not covered by warranty. It's worth a few extra dollars on batteries for the security that you're not going to fry your $35k camera and not have it covered by warranty.

Best,
Tim

Where did you read about this? Can you provide accurate links?

Yes, you can fly with NO RESTRICTIONS due to their testing! I have 16... and all come on board! No issues. They are FANTASTIC! They can keep on linking, up to 8 at a time, as you run low on power... I've NEVER done that, but I could... I even have a video review about them!

Check them out for yourself!

I used Red Bricks, great batteries, but travel restrictions forced me to move to Bebob Rouge's and Blue Shape, which this last are the absolute best and strongest most lasting V-Batteries I have used, and like NO other V0Lock battery I have used before, this last charged in stand by for months!!

But, I might give a try to this Paglink V-Lock batteries after all.

Oh, and NO, not all batteries nor their chargers are built equals.

Which BLUEshape batteries do you use, Ketch? I'm not familiar with Bebob's

This I'll need to test, most likely I'll get them from our buddy Curt, just need to make sure they are as efficient as the BlueShape and Bebob's.
Yes Curt is the Man Btw i hear he is getting a Big group together to Buy so Less per battery...;)

Thes come in V loc and AB Gold mount

Air safe and biggest you can get in reasnoble size and best price. They also fit underwater housings as they are compact.

They dont support the battery capacity function but do give you voltage which is fine for the most part.

id also keep a hand full of Redvolts for side handle use.

we have been using PAGlink Time sins they came out. Great batteries for Epics, fits them perfect. 1 battery runs the camera fully loaded with UMC3a and TVlogic for about 70 min!! put on two and you are good for about 150 min. You can stack 8 batteries in the PL16 charger and charge 16 batts on one charger. Highly recommended. Only thing is that the link patent is abit fragile. this is an intended feature so that the link will break before the battery gets damaged. You can fix the link after it breaks, but is not easy on set. Also we have a prototype of the power out plate with 4 AB connections and 1 usb 5v - solves allot of issues in a production equipped epic. Also they come with Airplane safe markings:)

Thanks Ketch.

Do they show % or voltage in the camera's LCD monitor? Doesn't say nothing about that in the description.

No, they do not Caden,

only gives their power output, but not percentage, they do have the side lights to show charge left when pressed, we'll need to see if with the Meizler back V-Lock battery mount this changes.

Thank you all for your post and replies. This defiantly narrows my list down and kicks out alot which i thought were actually thought were powerful.:yesnod:
