Hey Guys,

On a recent run and gun shoot where audio was of concern but we did not need the highest quality we decided to record the audio right on the camera body video the front audio inputs.

The audio is in RCX (v15) and plays just fine when playing it back on my mac. However, when trying to export to prores, the resulting prores files do not contain the audio files that we require. Unfortunately, the audio on this project is the only option.

Any ideas why the files are coming out with out audio?

Louis

In the QuickTime sub-menu there is a drop down to select your audio compression scheme. You must choose one. By default there is none selected, and that will result in no audio in your files. Double check that setting.

Just had the same thing happen on a group of exports the other day. I know everything there is to know about exporting audio with ProRes, and never had a failure in 4 years, but suddenly it wasn't there. Same version RCP15 I've been using for months.

I'll troubleshoot and let you know if I come up with anything, but can definitely back you up on your experience.

Ok, here is what I can confirm for you.

1) Audio settings were correct in the beginning but I did double check them.
2) I have not tried the Beta, I will grab a copy of that in a few minutes and try again.
3) Just tried an old interview I had shot with audio being recorded through the camera, that footage did export through prores with audio passthrough.

Update:

Don't have any clue why, but shorter clips of the original file are coming out with sound.

New issue: RCX (v15) is putting the exported files in locations that I am not specifying, and its changing the name. Everything else is good on the computer, but I have a friend who works for Apple who is on his way now to take a look.

I'll report back if I find anything so that any body else with the issue may be able to fix it themselves.

Additionally, still looking for ideas if you have one I'd love to hear it.

on my personal computer, of course I am! On the the particular system I'm trying to get the export done, I'm running 10.8.0. No updates yet.

I'm having the same issue Haven't had a minute to really trouble shoot it since we're running external audio anyway but I know the audio is there (going into ETC and seeing what channels their are for playback off the file and it plays back with audio fine in the view in RCX). If I export it out though I get nothing.

Had some moments of greatness last night where a few files were coming through with sound... now no sound again... back to the drawing board!

I don't know... a new batch is going now I'll check to see if I can do audio only afterwards.

You can do audio only export as BWF, not sure about audio only QT (Prores).

SUCCESS! :yesnod:

Try this:

1. Go to edit settings in your export preset. (This needs to be done for each export preset individually, at least did for me.)
2. In FORMAT/QUICKTIME/SETUP, go to the AUDIO tab and change LINEAR PCM to 16 bit and save. Either leave it as 16 bit or change it back to 24 bit, it will work now.

This fixed it for me. For whatever reason this appears to clear whatever blockage is stopping it from working.

When I went to a different preset, the audio was gone again until I went through this so it's not a once-per-app fix, it's once per export setting.

Please let me know if this is working for the rest of you.

The problem is in initializing those settings in the QuickTime audio dialog. The next release fixes this so that when a setup has not been performed, the output will default to uncompressed audio. You'll still be able to go in and choose a different
audio output format if desired.

Thanks Jimhare, Thanks David...

This worked! Ok good to know that I need to do that now before exporting anything with sound.

David, Thanks for letting us know the next release will fix it... Do you mean the non-beta release of 16, or the beta release of 17?
