I have a question, I don't have much experience in filming with RED, but lately I have camera operated on a few RED shoots and I have come up with a question.

When you are filming with the RED, I noticed how you can set your user profile to gain the look the director wants. But I know there is also the RAW option to actually see the footage in real RAW when its being shoot.

So my question is, when you are lighting the scene, should you light the scene to the USER PROFILE or to the RAW PROFILE ?

I would say the RAW profile or the RG3 and RC3 normal image.

But you are mostly lighting for the sensor and not what stuff looks like on screen. Keeping the goal posts empty, not clipping is most important. You can take information out in post, but you can't put it back in!

This is correct in that you should EXPOSE for the sensor using the goal posts. You should however light to your look. Lighting to RAW may give you undesired lighting when you later go to apply an look. So I never light to RAW, but if you don't want to light to your look, I frequently light to RC/G3.

I too light to my look in RC3, but since much of that is dark stuff, I pop into the RAW monitoring from time to time to be sure that I am leaving myself some wiggle room and make certain that the profile and LCD aren't misleading me.

Ah yes, didn't mean to say light to RAW rather make sure you are getting enough information. Definitely you would always light to whatever your look is.
