  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What do I need to export from Redcine-X to Prores 4444?

I know it's been answered previously... Never needed to do it before despite using REDs for four or five years. 4444's not listed as an Export option. I thought all I need to do was purchase/ update Quicktime Pro. that hasn't worked for me.
Help needed ASAP.

thanks

I see ProRes just fine. Select QuickTime, then settings, then video, and select from the pop-up of codecs seen by QuickTime. Do any of your other apps see ProRes444 when exporting as QuickTime?

Here's a download for it if your on a mac.
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1396?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

If you don't have the proper Pro apps, just unpack and view contents, then install manually into your system folder. Here's the instructions from Creative Cow: (Unfortunately this is the only way if you dont have Final Cut Studio 2 or above.)

"In order to get these to show and also to have access to all the other georgeous 422 codecs and other goodies, download the new QT codec pack: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1396

Then use the little app UNPKG ( http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/ ) to unpack the contents by simply dragging the downloaded PKG codec pack onto the app window. This then unpacks on the desktop. Inside navigate the folders until you get to the QT .component files.

Next, drag these into your Library/Quicktime/ folder and then you'll have the LT codecs ( and many others) to use in FCP 6 and all other apps like Streamclip, QT Pro etc. (I would recommend renaming the existing ones in case of problems of course)

I've done a test with it and it works like a charm on my Mac Pro running 10.6.7 and FCP 6.0.6. I'm not able to create an LT sequence but if you create a new one and then drag the material on with the prompt enabled to match settings it will make an LT sequence. I was also able to render out a 422 LT clip from QT Pro and Streamclip to use in the project. All the correct 422 labels also show in the codec lists in all encoding apps.

If you try and install the QT pack on anything not FCP X it will give you an error but this manual installation gets around the Apple Police and their insistence you buy everything new the minute it comes out! You can keep FCP 7 and X, I'm quite happy with 6!"

Thanks so much Matt. I already tried that apple download. Wouldn't let me install - didn't like my Final Cut Pro 6.01. I just installed FCP-X trial, then could install the codecs with success.

Matt I appreciate all the input this thread has saved my ass a few times, I finally saved the folders and Apps on my Tumby so I can use it in the field when theres no internet.

Only thing I want to add is I know on most Mac's 10.7 or later you will have a little lock icon on the Library Folder which will not allow you to Drop the QT Codec Pack.

If this happens then Open Terminal and type

open ~/Library

then press enter and it should pop up

for more info on how to access a Locked Library Folder then hit the link below.
